Does anyone have a favourite site near Oxford?
Hello All
I'm thinking of adding a trip to Oxford in the next month. I have found 2 CC sites on the map - Bladon Chains & Burford both look suitable, well equipped etc.
Does anyone have a favourite spot they can recommend, we're still very new to caravanning so prefer well equipped sites and preferably with pretty views & of course dog friendly.

Of the two I prefer Bladon Chains but that is mainly, as a motorhomer, it has good public transport links and it's an easy walk into Woodstock or to Blenheim Palace. There is certainly more road noise at Bladon Chains which puts some people off. You might find Burford more peaceful except for the odd animal noise!!!

Belinda, Diamond Caravan Park at Kidlington gets good reviews on UKCampsite.co.uk - but there are others listed there for you to look at, including the Camping Club site which is closer to the city.

I've just been to Henley Four Oaks.
A little further out but a nice site and a very short walk in to Henley on Thames. No dog walk on site, just a fenced off area to do there business, but the Thames is a just across the road with all the space and walking you could want. Only issue is it's on a busy road so there is some traffic noise but it didn't bother us. Have a look at the reviews but don't let the comments about the noise put you off

If you are planning to visit Oxford then Bladon Chains is a good choice as the buses run into the city or you can use the park and ride. The dog walk at Bladon is small but you can walk dogs on the footpath to the village, usually on a lead as there are often sheep in the field. You can walk in the grounds of the palace, either buying a ticket or for free following the footpaths from the entry gate at the bottom of the hill in the old part of Woodstock .Burford is further out, but still handy for Oxford.
There are also a couple of CLS in Kidlington but no facilities other than EHU.
There is also a commercial site Greenhill Farm, which although we've not stayed there it does get some good reviews.

yes, i was also going to suggest this, a lovely walk into town.

Flat, hard standings, some full service pitches. Decent pub 50yds from gate with food every day except Monday. Bus from gates to Abingdon and Witney every half hour and less frequently to Oxford. Easy drive to P + R for Oxford. Lots of dog walks around the village. Fish and Chip van in village every Saturday evening.
Never stayed there as 150 metres from my house but grandkids use the pool as members. Nice site.

We stayed at Burford and can say it was an excellent site, the only site I've been to with a double lane roundabout. Good shower block, lots of hardstandings and a good number of service pitches. You'll also hear the monkeys and lions from the park across the road

A commercial run site in the Oxford area with excellent dog walking availability is Cotswold View, near Charlbury.My wife and I have visited many, many times, (years back when our kids were young and growing)and watched this site develop since the late eighties, set on large farm, has complete fields set aside for dog runs. You have both Woodstock (clubs Bladon Chains site) and Witney around five / six miles away, and Woodstock is main A44 to connect to the P & R north of he city of Oxford. I would say looking at the map, Charlbury area is closer to Oxford than Burford in terms of distance but all three sites are easy enough as regards roads. Cotswold View more rural and quieter, depending what you wish for, Charlbury also has railway station should you need it.
