BMW E61 525i as a tow car?

Has anyone ever used a BMW E61 525i auto for towing?

If so I'd be interested in learning how it performs and what sort of MPG it returns.  I'm considering replacing my old V70 TDi auto with the BMW.

For a car that's almost 20 years old the V70 performs very well but is only returning about 26 AMPG while towing the new van - I can't expect the BMW to be even as good as that but if I could realistically get 22 AMPG from it I might consider swapping.

The van is a Knaus Sudwind that weighs in at 1300KG max

I'm sure the BMW would pull it no problem and it would be a much nicer drive but don't know what sort of economy I can expect from it - I hear conflicting reports of anywhere between 15 MPG to 25 MPG.

TIA

Not had any experience of towing with a BMW but if buying a used model (of any series) make sure it is one, that of the many "extras" that are available, it has "indicators", as they do not seem to be fitted to the majority surprisedcoolwink

Must be a German thing as Audi seem to have the same issue smile
