Nearly 400 pitches vacant on Club sites in Devon and Cornwall on 30 July 2017 - and some of you doggedly insist that all is well. I bet the managers at Head Office are concerned.

I suspect that the intolerant would not come if sites were not tolerable! As for strict rules - the only strict rule that I would be intolerant to being broken is the playing of ball games in close proximity to caravans. If that makes me intolerant then I agree that the majority of site users are intolerant!

That is generally my usage of sites David. When the temperatures were high and the weather humid we did spend longer on site by finding a shady tree on site come 3pm after being out.

You've got a good point there, Rocky. It would be interesting to know if the intolerants make up the bulk of the membership in general or if they just have a large showing on CT.

PS. The grey logo is so apt. cool

Far too expensive in Peak. There are even 35 pitches available according to Late Availability next Sunday at CHATSWORTH. If that isn't a Honeypot which is. Time the tea drinkers looked at their modelling.

I support the idea of designated areas for ball games completely away from caravans/motorhomes, but agree with the OP: ball games should not be played anywhere near our touring units.

Last weekend, we stayed at Poston Mill, in Herefordshire.  They had a separate files for ball games, a boules/petanque court, a pitch at putt golf area and a large (seperate) field where dogs could be let off the lead for a good run.  The Club could very well look at this model when planning sites.

it was a shame that your first (and only) experience was such a bad one...obviously no going back for you, and fair enough.smile

however, no mud on any of the sites weve stayed on....though , i agree that the site you stayed on the pitches were too close together...in fact, we changed pitches when there.

having said that, other sites have not dispointed, provided one doesnt 'do peak'...

the week after spring opening at Perran, with only around 20 vans on site (and only 10 or so on the Super Pitches) was calm, spacious, in a great location, an cheap as chips at £9 a night....

i realise its not something you would look for, but in the context of this theead, there also plenty of places for kids/teens to really let off steam on all weather football/volleyball courts.

whilst CC may have 'play areas' for younger children, ive not seen any all weather pitches where a group of kids can spend an evening with some 5 (or 10) a-side matches....

Maybe the Saga members, as some would have it,  are choosing to stay at home or holiday at other sites to avoid the ball games during the school holidays as the OP points out.

Looks to be a bargain BB! For me and OH to go to Perranporth tomorrow for 5 nights on hard standing only £85 a night. That does include entertainment and facilities though!

    Different provision for different requirements.

yes, even their rock bottom off peak prices include all the facilities.

however, these are not (specifically) for us either, just part of the deal for those that want themsmile

we went for the location, quiet site (time of year) and first class facilities.

at £65 a week, a great value package...

having said that (and as Moulesy oft points out) i wouldnt be going there other than out of season.

but back to the OP, for some families, the kids 'facilities' give them some other options, especially on rainy days....wink

We were at St Davids during the May school holidays. Virtually no kids on the CC site, but next door on the commercial site enough to have football matches. Doesn't seem as young families use CC sites in general. It was all SAGA people at St Davids. with the youngsters next door. Perhaps something to do with all the rules, warning signages  and the perception us oldies don't like kids. We invariably use alternatives at school holiday times appart from those 2 nights in May.

The last few posts shows very well why we need diversity in the type of sites available to campers of all types. There are many specialised family type camp sites catering for youngsters of all ages, whereas a smaller site such as the majority of sites provided by the CC are not large enough to accommodate the numbers needed to make such a site viable. I am not certain that the club actually own all of their sites as some seem to be leased.

I have no doubt that all sites will have the same basic rules that would be expected of any camper and the same percentage of folk ignoring them as on all sites.

It is to all our advantage to have as much choice in campsites as possible, so why should we expect our club to be the same as all the other options.

£85 per night, and people complain about the camc prices. You could have come to us at treamble valley for less than £26 per night £60 cheaper per night. So tell me what do you get for your £60 extra

for those that want these things, there will be swimming pools, bars, restaurants, sports fields/courts, supervised play areas, organised escorted walks/sessions for kids, entertainment in the evenings.....quite a bit for families.

however, i dont use much of these (a swim, perhaps) and i only pay £9 a night when i go...and its lovely and quiet.wink

so tell me, what do you get at Treamble for the extra £17 a night?wink

a rhetorical question, but it shows how different customers want different things at different times of the year.....we make use of a site in a great location that adjusts prices out of season, obviously we wouldn't pay the prices quoted above.....but some families do and make full use of the facilities.

club sites, and many smaller commercials dont provide what these customers are looking for, which is more than just pitching the van.

no right or wrong, just different customer priorities.smile

i am just a 'poor customer' who likes to check out the market place and make informed choices.

based on the wide variety of site types i use all over UK/Europe, i think i 'understand' the market pretty well, thanks....wink

nice to see your 'interesting' comments about customers in another thread.

having spent the latter part of my working life supporting the people that support our businesses, i think i 'understood' them, too...

and gave them more respect than you appear to have for themundecided

But as you were it seems "behind the scenes" instead of on the "frontline" of customer service then i do not think you are in  a position to comment on the post about joe publicwink

I just think some folks make poor choices in where they stay. We are very wise in terms of what we expect to find on certain sites, in certain locations, at certain times of the year. This wisdom extends to Club, commercial and small CL type sites, and we choose accordingly. If the likelihood of something we don't like is high, we will go elsewhere. No stress, no disappointment, no moaning.........

why the derogatory 'joe public' when referring to consumers?

is 'joe public' the way you (and your 'warden friends') talk about the CC customer we are discussing in this thread?

respect is a two way street and if this is how 'insiders' think about those that purchase services, god help that business.

"Ball games taking over on Club Sites". I read the heading, thought it sounded a really promising development, part of the changes following the re branding to attract a wider clientele and all that - so I told all my children and grandchildren about it. They sent messages back saying Pigs might fly,  and said they have all arranged to go somewhere else.
