dash cams

Hi guys and girls, 
After been cut up again at a roundabout this weekend, whilst towing the caravan, and idiot drivers trying to pass in places which aren't appropriate, and causing us to stop or swerve to avoid an accident, which isn't always easy when towing, we have decided to purchase a dash cam.

As there are so many out there on the market, it looks like a mine field to me, so I was wondering what other folk use and what you would recommend, Ideally I would like it to record and store for a couple of days, till we get chance to save/download anything we need when we get back for our trip.

    Check out the Nextbase range. We have a 512 and it seems very good. It has the facility of allowing you to save a section and prevent it from being overwritten which is useful if you've filmed an incident.

    Halfords often have offers on them.

    +1, 512g, Full HD, playback on TV. Crisp footage, Impact footage protected, polarized lens to cut out glare-excellent. Just coming up to 2yrs ownership & its faultlesssmile

    Another vote for Nextbase , I have the older 402g ,3 of them in each of my vehicles,van,car and M/H

    How much do you want to spend? You can spend a few quid, or hundreds. I have one of these, by no means the best of what's available, but plenty good enough to record an accident or numpty that cuts you up. It's  WiFi, so you down load directly to your Smart phone (assuming you have one wink)

    Have just purchased a couple off the link.

    With or without GPS (£10 difference) the A119 V2 is the latest version.

    Good reviews and even a dedicated forum on Dashcam talk.

    I bought the Nextbase 402G, probably a couple of years ago, now.  I was delighted with it for about the first 9 or 10 months and then it started playing up.  It didn't seem to shut off as it should when the ignition was turned off - but then I noticed the recordings were a bit hit and miss - some worked and others didn't.  I must admit I didn't do anything about it immediately and then when it was about 18 months old, I started to read negative reviews about it having problems with the battery and that this was a fairly widespread issue with this model.  Replacing the battery wasn't a cheap option but then I came across information which indicated that Nextbase had acknowledged the problem and had extended the warranty to 18 months.  Great, thought I - I'll send it back - but then saw in the small print that this offer only applied to subscribers to Which magazine because it had been rated by them as a "Best Buy'.  Guess what - I had cancelled my free subscription to Which, the month before!!

    I would be interested to know if later versions of Nextbase are more reliable because I am looking to replace it and can't decide which way to go.

    Read my Post above on the nextbase 512g Rich. 2yrs without issue. I use it every trip without fail. Get a specific sd card for any dashcam, I use the Sandisk 32gb v30 for video recording. Corking combosmile, the nextbase 512gw is the latest one with quad HD(1440) it's no better than mine so I didn't upgrade.

    Hi. thank you for your feedback, I also posted the same question on a caravan page on facebook, and after about 30 comments, over 20 suggested the Nextbase range. We have purchased 2 cameras and hard wire fitting for the front camera for my car and the other for the front of my partners car, but purchased a couple of brackets, so that when we are towing, we can use my camera in the back of the caravan, and if needs be we can swap and change and have both in camera (back and front) of each others car, if we are going out together, or one of us is travelling on motorway or fair distance.  We had 1 fitted this morning, to my partners car, and he loves it, and mine is been fitted tomorrow,  We had purchased the 312gw,online,  but when he went for the fitting he upgraded to the next one up, as there was a large price reduction on it, so thought it was better value for money,

    If you check out the Nextbase website you'll get an accurate view of the clarity as they use the hosting site Vimeo. Some say any Dashcam will do-not so, if it has to stand up to scrutiny by the Police or even a court of law it won't be accepted if the footage is fuzzy, the footage must be clear & crisp. Whichever one you choose ensure it is Full HD. Some claim HD but they're 720p mine is 1920x1080p.
