Can anybody recommend things to do direct from this site without driving?

It does depend on if you like walking. If so get yourself an OS 1:25000 map of the area, which shows footpaths in detail.

    1. A nice 5 / 6 mile walk there and back to Middleham Castle. (English Heritage)
    2. Short Walk to Leyburn Station and a day pass on the heritage railway. This allows time to go down the line to Bedale. Have a quick walk round the town, then train back to the end of the line at Redmire and about 6 mile walk back to site.
    3. Train there and back to Redmire, with a short walk to Castle Bolton and it's castle, between trains.
    4. Bus down the valley to East Witton and 5 / 6 mile walk back to the site. Via Middleham and its castle.
    5. If you buy a map, you will find many others. It's great waking country. Some hills but all fairly gentle. 😀

Book yourself a tour at either Theakstons or the Black Sheep Breweries  in Masham and go down there on the 10.40 am. bus from Leyburn Market Place.

You are in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales. Close to site is Leyburn, nice little town, lots of independent shops, good walks out. The Tea Pottery and Chocolate Factory are close by the site. Two marvellous castles, Middleham and Castle Bolton quite close. CB often has events such as archery, birds of prey etc... on. Think there is a heritage railway that runs close to Club Site?

If you want to see something different, head up to Middleham early morning, 7am -8am and watch the racehorses on the gallops, Middleham and area is centre of northern racing industry, some dozen or so stableyards scattered in town! Good pubs as well. Drive up and through Coverdale down to Kettlewell, great for a picnic, stunning scenery. Also, look out for the Forbidden Corner, different sort of visit!

    Brewery visit is good.

As mentioned, a decent map is your best friend, and of course search Tourist Info websites, there is always loads to do in Yorkshire. Enjoy!

Walk up to Leyburn (1 1/4 miles) and plenty of pubs no restaurants.  If you like walking, the wardens sell an excellent small cut down OS map which is plastic covered and suitable for keeping in your pocket when walking.  Shows all the walks.  I did Leyburn Shawl which was a 10 mile beautiful circuit

Google 'walks near ....' and check out the sites that come up. Often they have directions & small maps you can print before leaving home
