Hi we are travelling from Penrhos caravan site to Breacon Beacons in August.

Was wondering if anyone could suggest a safe route to tow our caravan avoiding any narrow roads or hills. Been towing for three years but would still like some advise.

We would use the A470, it's quite a long run but ok.

If you not confident towing on the hills then you need to avoid the Crimea Pass on A470 maybe use the longer route via A5 and Bala and rejoin A470 further south. Maybe other people will say other routes

The roads in Wales are better quality than those in England. The A470 over the crimea pass is Ok, used by service buses and HGV. On entering Blaenau Ffestiniog, roundabout take the 2 nd exit pass Taygrisiau to again reach the man road, Turn left and follow to Dolgellau. Again a pass to cross as you follow Welshpool

road but not difficult. AT Brigands Inn take 2nd exit to Cemaes Road roundabout, take first left to Llanbrynmair and follow main road to Carno. At T junction turn right and follow A roads again signposted Brecon If you want an overnight break try Gwern y   Bwlch CC site at Llanbrynmair  Iwould estimate 7 hrs + for time.

If you aren't a confident tower, I would avoid the A470 south through mid Wales, a very hilly and windy section near Dolgellau, I would recommend travelling across north Wales on the A55, cut down past Wrexham to Shrewsbury then A49 south to Hereford then on to Brecon.

If the Mansel Davies tankers can do it, so can you.

If you cant tackle the good welsh roads, should you be driving?
