Site of the Week - Kendal Club Site

We have a new discussion for you - Site of the Week. Each week we select one site to highlight the variety off different locations and experiences you can have throughout the UK.
This week, we have chosen Kendal Club Site. Have you stayed here when visiting the Lake District? What are your top things to do in the area?
Kendal is a lovely town, I visited during the Kendal Mountain Festival in November last year. Although it was pretty cold, the sun shone almost the whole time and really highlighted how beautiful the area is, whatever the season.
What are your thoughts?

Interesting idea.......
We stayed here once a few years ago, handy for the main dual carriageway into the Lakes, but way too many trees for us..........sadly we havent been back.
But I hope other people like the site....

We stayed there last year and loved the setting. Lovely woodland glades and the river to enjoy as well. We walked to the local farm shop and cafe, one of the best we have sampled! Will probably go back at some point as we missed the walk to the castle and it would also make a good overnight break when we're heading north.

Stopped there a few years ago and thoroughly enjoyed it. Keep meaning to go back. Lovely site in a great location. Plenty of walks available without needing the car. Up river into Kendal, down river towards Grange-over-sands or just up the road to National Trust Sizergh Castle.

It's not too far from the Southern hills, you can also get some good low level walks plus the cafe and local castle are very good. On the minus side is the undeniable fact that it's heavily wooded and thus quite claustrophobic in summer. Not always easy to get a level pitch and some pitches will be tight for bigger outfits.
Early in the year when not too many leaves out then you can see Woodcock roding as they nest in the woods at the back of the site.
Years ago we used to stay at this site at least 2 or 3 times a year. Wouldn't stay now unless in transit, but can see why it would tick some boxes.

Stayed there recently - this is not your usual manicured site this has been built into a forest(well old gunpowder factory) many of the pitches are shadowed by trees so choose wisely if you want the sun. The pitches vary greatly in size and shape - some are quite tight and also you may have to park with the peg at the side, also some of the pitch areas have a challenging access up hill and round corners at same time.
Our only real gripe was the depending on where you are the toilets can be a bit of a hike
Having said all that we enjoyed it and will revisit but chose the time carefully as well used by families
Great wardens - very knowledgeable, game for a laugh and apply rules pragmatically

I am sure it's a nice site but not so convenient for us older motorhomers as the Site Details say that the nearest bus is 30 minutes walk away and further investigation suggests they are not that regular!

Stayed here a couple of years ago. We booked one night with the plan that we'd extend a few days if we liked it.
It's the only time I've ever left a site before breakfast. I really didn't like it
. I wanted to like it because it was expensive for four of us in school holidays but I couldn't wait to hitch up. It gave me the creeps. Sorry

sadly same here, while usual club standards for the site itself too many trees. I don't like having to look straight up to see small pieces of sky,

In what way? Which site is underbooked this week so let's feature it😂 We, like others, found it to be too dark and dank for our liking but the walks etc were outstanding. Much prefer Meathop Fell.

Although it's undoubtedly convenient for Kendal itself, we didn't really like the "feel" of the site when we looked around a couple of years ago - although in fairness it was only a fleeting visit just to look at the site for future reference. We prefer the C&CC site at Staveley for staying in that area.

I hated the club's Kendal site but I would never describe an opposing view as 'drivel'. It's a matter of personal opinion which is something we're all entitled to without being put down or ridiculed.
It's not the trees at Kendal that make me dislike the site but the awkward nooks and crannies amongst the trees that we're supposed to pitch in. Some pitches are nigh on impossible to get onto and it can be a very steep climb to/from the toilet blocks from some pitches. It's not a site for the less than able bodied, in my opinion.
That one way system seems to go on forever!
Sorry, Hannah, but Kendal will never be my personal choice.

It's not for us either, we have tried it once and did not like the gloominess or the awkward pitches., and at that time we had a smaller van. Definitely a mover needed for most pitches.
Pity, as it is in a convenient position . We now use Meathop Fell.

Lovely site but as David said not user friendly for the park and bus motorhomers. Lovely pub a nice walk up a country lane to get too but if it was raining might not be so enjoyable.

We use this site as a stopover on our way South and back North when using Portsmouth ferries. It's handy being not too far from the motorway. I agree that at certain times of the year it can be a bit dark, however the last time we stopped over the wardens had done some tree felling and pruning in a few areas to open the canopy. What a difference it made to these areas, I would suggest this is carried out in a few more areas of the site, no too many but it would improve it and not detract from the woodland setting.

This has already been superseded by North Yorkshire site, when will CT catch up ?

Not a site I would use again having stayed there previously. We always opt for Meathop Fell if in that area.
