Caravan Laybys

Not sure if there is where I should be posting this but I'm travelling from Plymouth to hayling island on Saturday, I have no idea where I can take a break towing my van, no motorways I think its A30 A35 hopefully someone in the club can let me know? help please

    Hello and welcome to CT. You'd be better to start a thread in discussions, UK sites and touring. I'm sure someone with local knowledge will give you some pointers, sorry wrong part of the country for me to assist.

    You'll find a good selection of laybys along the routes planned. The A30 between Exeter Airport and Honiton has good big laybys, they get smaller after Honiton. The A35 should be ok too, good laybys between Dorchester and the Bere Regis roundabout.  I presume you'll join the A31 at this point, (don't go via Bournemouth.) It's narrow in places but you'll find one or two laybys further on overlooking the New Forest after Ringwood. Services start on the M27 at Rownhams.

    Have just been over that way, good roads but quite a long haul. Have a safe journey.

    Brue, thanks for that, I actually go down the A30 to exeter and know exeter region well, been on the honiton road a lot, not sure about the A31 down, seem to remember narrow stuff after Axeminster and don't remember and decent caravan stops down that road. I definately need to stop possible twice on the way down as I'm disabled. So looking for a stop round Ringwood. Is there a post code for it or can you tell me exactly where it is, difficult if you drive past it and have to uturn if you miss it. think I've found one at a place called ferndown? do you know if that is suitable?

    about 4 miles east of Ringwood on the A31 is a layby.....have a look on goglemaps to see if it will suffice.

    there is a small services just before this but it looks like there is insufficient parking for a caravan...

    Might it be better to go via M5 motorway from Exeter to Taunton, drop down to the A303 heading towards London, and finally turning south on the A36 via Salisbury to your destination. It's an easier road if you are towing and has more stopping places.

    Don't you just love this web site, I've just sorted out some ideas to help and got timed out!

    Anyway, here goes, once more, greatly shortened...

    If you're sticking to the A35 as you leave Dorchester there is a large layby with facilities on the left.

    As you join the A31 at Bere Regis there are services on that roundabout. Also small services at the Rufus Stone. SEE HERE on the A31 after Ringwood. By that point you're not far from the M27 Rownham Services which are good.

    The M27 will take you to the Hayling Island junction via the A27.
