Jockey tyres

Advice required
A family member who wishes to take up our pastime was asking me about the virtues of inflatable jockey wheels against solid ones. A salesman was suggesting that with the addition of motor movers he would sell him these were better. Now being a motorhome I had no upto date experience of such things but I said I would ask a friend! So friends, what should I tell him?

With the "standard" cheap narrow jockey wheel fitted, they tend to dig into the loose chippings of hardstands or soft ground on grass if wet ,an inflatable jockey wheel will tend to ride better  ,we have an alko premium solid jockey wheel,which is wider and seems not to dig in so much, and of course not prone to going flat that some "cheap" inflatable ones are

We have a mover fitted and found that the solid jockey wheels tend to 'plough' in grass and sink in on gravel.

I fitted a new pneumatic wheel and assembly and find the mover copes far better.

Be aware tho the need to buy the complete jockey wheel/assembly as the wheels are a larger diameter and wider in general.

I would also buy a wheel with a high psi rating which are more expensive but do cope far better with the swinging of the van when moving it. Cheaper wheels (plastic centres) seem to have a max psi of 30 lbs and can thus be prone to stripping off the rim, altho carrying one as a spare in case of a puncture could be useful.

I found exactly the same problem and chose the same solution. They also run much smoother on hard surfaces as you'd expect.
