SOS for Campervan part

Hi all.

I bought my first Campervan in February. Lately, it has been refusing to go into first gear. I booked it into my local mechanics and they discovered it needed a " gear linkage" 😬.

A week later, having been told  by Peugeot that they don't make this part any more, the mechanics haven't had any joy from putting out an SOS amongst the breakers yards.

My vehicle is an X Reg Peugeot Boxer conversion. Does anyone have any ideas or words of wisdom/comfort/hope?

Is the 'linkage' the cables between the gearstick and gearbox ?

Have you tried a Citroen dealer (yes I know yours is a Peugeot, but badge engineering) , it might also be available from a Fiat dealer.

If all else fails, try ebay, for instance, is this it:

Maybe there is a member’s forum for your campervan conversion type/brand where you could also post your help message.  Good luck.

As above, try a car or van forum allied to the camper van engine gearbox.   You will not be the first to tread this path!

Cables are available on eBay or do they mean some other part is faulty?

I'ts amazing that the 100s / 1000s of Peugeot Boxer Citroen  motorhomes of this age still on the road that Peugeot /  Citroen in their wisdom stopped making the gearbox parts & can't even supply recon gearboxes any more.

I had problems with my X reg 2000 Boxer based Autosleeper gearbox.- both 1st gear & changing from 3rd to 4th.

Eventually after many months found a s/h gearbox that worked after a style but the Mhome was never the same & I eventually sold it off.

S/H parts are probably your only chance - unless you can find a specialist who will make / engineer the parts required - that could be a possible but expensive solution.
