Tow ball condition

Hi, I'm new to this so hope I can explain my situation, Just bought new car and had new tow bar fitted which seems to be painted black. Do I need to rub down the ball to bare metal for the stabilizers to work? Appreciate your advice.

    I am afraid that you do have too rub OFF the black paint on the tow ball. I would suggest a medium to fine abrasive sand paper. Then if you like give it a good rub with some fine wire wool. Keep it covered, and free from grease/oil. Any signs of contamination, just rub it up with fine wire wool.
