This is posted on behalf of our daughter who is staying at FM at the moment but is unable to post herself.
"It is very busy this weekend on site and the wardens are dealing with mass arrivals and departures. The grass on our pitch was uncut on arrival and isn't the prerequisite height, but a bit of grass won't finish us off anytime soon. The pitch is large and level so a double win. The toilet block on our side is considerably dated but kept clean and tidy. As for the wardens, well they are dealing with racetrack style drivers, missing children, various ridiculous on site issues and general maintenance, the bins are something to behold each morning. However the wardens are cheerful and pleasant and one of them rode round site this evening encouraging people to see the traditional dancing at the entrance even though he had finished for the night.
This site is very busy and very large split across two sites. We will certainly be back again, maybe Wayne and Judy should consider staying at home if their needs are so specific.

If that statement is also true it means that the full time staff are not very good, if volunteers can do a better job.

Thanks for that TW. I have had a trying day and was glad of the laugh.

W&J Hello.
Sorry I missed this thread till so late. I just wondered if this last bad experience of a club site, and it has to be said in a long list of bad experiences, is going to be the one that makes you actually stop using club sites?

I understand one of the reasons that Mildenhall closed is that it is getting more difficult to get enough volunteer cover (Slinfold next?)is the reason that volunteers are getting more "problems on site"with the growth of the "never satisfied society"

Some of us of course boycott club sites (appart from quiet winter time) in case we meet some of the people here. Dont know much about Ferry Meadows but is it closed? Is it a volunteer run site? If the latter the moaners should be banned from using them

I have to say, W&J that after reading your series of reviews, I too am beginning to wonder why you keep going there after so many problems.
I would be prepared to give a site a second chance (provided it wasn't totally awful) but not year after year.
That said, what I posted earlier about wardens being instructed to not say 'No' to any visitors is the case, and I can only think that this will lead to more unruly behaviour on sites if the staff aren't allowed to perform their full role in site.
I do not criticise the site staff for this - many of them must also be fed up of this situation.

Wasn't it Einstein who came up with that famous quote about madness as "doing exactly the same thing over and over again and expecting a different outcome"? (I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong! )
I can't understand why W & J keep going back to the same sites thinking that the club has any incentive to improve things (in their eyes)if even their most vocal critics continue to use the sites?
W & J - time to "get real"! There are alternatives out there, you now!

why doesnt the 'extremely solvent' CC employ more staff, if required?
to consider closing a site because of a lack of volunteers seems incredibly shortsighted.
are we (you) saying the sites are genuinely 'at risk of closure' if members dont do voluntary work on them?
i thought this was a 21st century market leading holiday organisation, not some charity shop in town
