Mobiloo comes to Cromer
I'm hoping to get the news out to visitors to Cromer (Seacroft and Inclebrorough Fields) that we have secured a mobile changing place and toilet, complete with wheelchair lift, hoist and fully accessible changing table to be parked close to Cromer's carnival Field for the whole of Carnival Week (w/c 12th August with Red Arrows display on Weds 16th). This project has been put together by a few volunteers from the town and is entirely funded by voluntary contributions - the only thing we will get out of it is knowing that visitors with a severe disability who cannot normally come on holiday or have days out in our town will now have a resource on our Runton Road car park - a mere 10 minute walk from Seacroft CMC Club site. I've included a link for the mobile website below and am happy to answer any queries. My only ask is that if you know somebody who would benefit from this facility, please please tell them. Thanks! Jane

Hi peedee
There are the usual "disabled toilets" around the town and even in the Runton Road toilets by the Blue Sky cafe. However toilets such as these are often just larger versions of the usual cubicle with grab rails, raised loos and lowered sinks. Changing Places - and the Mobiloo - offer far more than this.
The Mobiloo is a fully attended motorhome sized van. It has a tail lift so wheelchairs can be electronically raised to the height of the van and can thus access facilities without a ramp (or steps). It has an adjustable height changing table and an electric hoist, allowing access to all areas of the Mobiloo. It has a toilet with retractable grab rail to each side and a basin with hot water, an internal heater and a side door for easy access by those without impaired mobility. The only thing users need is their own sling for the hoist.
In many places, those who cannot use a toilet due to their disability may only have the option of being changed on the floor - a situation that I wouldn't wish on anyone - otherwise they have the indignity of remaining in soiled pads - again causing untold distress. Many prefer not to drink (awful) or to stay at home.
Being in this situation could happen to any of us. One car (or MH) accident and we too might need this.
Whilst its great to be thanked, its actually a young woman called Emma Spagnola who has set this in motion - I'm just helping her with her campaign. She will be there with the Mobiloo all week and is being trained to support its users.

Many thanks for the explanation JaneandIan, it sounds a fantastic bit of kit. I didn't know such a thing existed. Good luck to Emma and I hope the facility will be of use to those who actually need it and it will encourage them to come to the carnival week.
