I think its like full covers ,it depends on the material  used in the construction

Hi tench2, we've used a front cover for 4 years now. We chose to use one, when we bought a new van. Our old van was also bought from new and really well looked after. But the front lost its shine, the windows became " hazy " if you know what I mean and there were a few serious stone chips too. Since having the towing cover, we have not had any of these problems with the new vans we've bought. Additionally, no tar marks!😀

We do get a few small black marks as a result of the cover, but not 100% sure of the cause. It's either road dirt / exhaust fumes concentrating in spots under the bottom of the cover. Or rubbing of the cover. The marks need a little white spirit to lift them.

We always ensure the windows are spotless before fitting the cover and thankfully they are still crystal clear.

We are out all year and with the state of some of the roads with mud, salt, ice and water, we are really happy with our decision to buy one.

    Hope this helps, cheers, Alex.

If you are talking towing covers then I can highly recommend.  We have a specialist cover and its the best accessory purchase we've brought.  Its a snug zip up fit, doesn't flap about and certainly doesn't flap about and protects the front of the van

We have been thinking about getting one for our new van.

Good to know they work and protect the front. Any recommendations as to which makes are good would be appreciated.

We have a specialised cover.  Takes us about 2 minutes to put on and a minute or so to take off.  Note, we always carry the wind up handle and motor mover engaging handle in the car.  We have never been ask to remove the cover at boarder crossings.

Hi Helen and Trevor, sorry have only had a Specialised one like Oneputt, so not been able to compare. I think there are 2 types. A hard shell one and a softer material one. We have soft type. It was cheaper and we were able to use it on two new vans. I think the hard shell ones are dearer and specifically designed for each van, but could be wrong. Cheers, Alex

I have the Tow Pro Elite from Specialised Covers, not cheap but I would recommend it. (better than replacing front windows due to stone cracks?)

As Oneputt has said it goes on in under two minutes, mine is tailor made to fit the caravan but they do a cheaper universal cover.

Make sure the front of the caravan is clean before fitting and I've yet to see a mark it has made after removing.

We've used a Specialist Cover on both our vans and no problems with 'rubbing'. I would say the when towing the wind on the front doesnt seem to allow it to rub/flap.

I too have one from specialised covers who offer a small discount for club members. I agree with previous comments having had a window damaged I would now not travel without it.

Just ensure that the front of the van is clean before fitting.

We have had the front valance on our caravan damaged twice whilst towing, from debris thrown up by the car.

I'd guess that a towing cover could have prevented this damage maybe, and would also prevent stone chips.

If we had a new caravan I would definitely buy one.

Also keeps the front of the caravan clean, so another job saved upon arrival.

I can't imagine that, for the amount of time they are fitted, it would cause any damage.

Incidenly, last year in France, the couple opposite us on one site never removed their front cover for the 2-3 days we saw them.

It was really hot, so maybe this was to keep the interior cool?

I may be tempting fate but in over thirty two years of towing we have never had any damage, but it can happen. Basically you have to look at the price and decide if the reduction in risk is worth it to you.

We bought a cheap universal towing cover from EBay (£68) because we weren't sure of its benefit but having seen the amount of muck and bug impacts on it; after even a relatively short tow; that would otherwise be on the caravan we are well and truly sold on it's advantages. No black marks and easily fitted.

We'll be buying a Tow Pro + from Specialised Covers as soon as finances allow.

Wouldn't go out without one. No more mud and muck splashed  van to clean when arriving on site and no more stone chips!!
