North of England
Hi All,
We are looking for a site in the north of England that is within walking distance of a town/large village but also has good walks in the area?

That's a mighty big area the North of England! East side, West side, coastal, moorland. Could you perhaps narrow it down a little bit more?

Sorry I know it is big area, we are going to Flamingoland near Pickering 20 miles from York. I would love to stay in that area or slightly further North. Going the middle ywo weeks in July.

That helps a lot!
There is a lovely small private site (exCL) called Cliff Farm, at Sinnington, just outside Pickering. It has spotlessly clean heated loos and showers, a small laundry and a honesty freezer! Owners are lovely, and the site is all HS, well laid out. Pickering is a couple of miles along footpaths, you are close to Sinnington village, and the whole of the North York Moors, and Flamingoland is on your doorstep! Link to site is here http://www.clifffarmholidays.com/
Club Sites are either not close to towns (Whitby) or will be booked solid, and very expensive. There are lots of lovely CLs in the area as well, some with full facilities. Good luck finding something.

Westgate Carr Farm is another very nice, small, private site just on the outskirts of Pickering but within walking distance of the town. New toilet and shower block, Alpacas, donkeys and other animals on the farm, good dog walking and very peaceful. Owners are lovely and very helpful - even took us into Pickering and looked after our dog for the afternoon whilst we went to a friends birthday party.

Hawes but l don't think its open till July being referb, Barnard Castle about 1/12 miles to the town centre. 3/4 mile to the castle good walks through the castle woods. Quite a few in Yorkshire have a look by the map and look at each site reviews that should give you some idea's

Cherry Tree Cottage caravan site, Nether Poppleton, is a non-facility 15 pitch site close to York, which has a couple of country walks close by. You can walk into York from the site but there's also a bus stop just along from the site with a half-hour service into the city.

Hi John,
I would discount Barnard Castle & Hawes, (even if it's open when you go) they're both over 70 miles to Flamingo Land.
If you want a club site near a large village/town, as already mentioned Thirsk or West Ayton would be your best bet. There is one at Rosedale Abbey, called The Howard, but that has no toilet or shower block. There is also a commercial site in Rosedale Abbey which does have a toilet block & showers. Rosedale Abbey isn't a large village, but does have a village store, tea shop & pub, or at least did last time I visited! And you are right in the moors, so plenty of walking on your doorstep.
There is also a commercial site at Wombleton, again it isn't a large village, but does possess a pub, and there is a very good Indian at Beadlam.
Paul.
