New Zealand on a Very Tight Budget Day 24
We ate our breakfast outside in pleasant conditions and drove into Rotorua which seems to be entirely composed of motels and smells strongly of sulphur!
The intermittent heavy downpours merged into one and we literally paddled through the park past the flooded bowling green and the band stand where the attendant was just putting up the sign to say the concert was cancelled due to the weather – making our way to the highly recommended museum. We were devastated to find it was closed due to earthquake strengthening – a lot of places are undergoing this process.
So after a coffee at the Blue Baths Social Club and a browse of the shops we set off to drive round Rotorua Lake stopping for lunch on the far side, returning via the supermarket and checking out a walk for tomorrow.
We spent the rest of the afternoon in the thermals pools and having a doze. It has actually stopped raining now and the sky to the south is brighter. We even ended up having our evening meal outside followed by a sunlit stroll to the spring!
