I was at Hebden Bridge here in Yorkshire on Sat night ,can only do 1 night as I work Fri eves looking at the reviews I was going to put one on but I can't as I have already done so last year ,someone had put that as this site has no toilet block the money spent on the re brand could have paid for a toilet block..

so my question is why do sites not have toilet/shower facilities ??we have 3 here in Yorkshire that don't !!!

maybe their locality to a sewage system for a large site.  smaller ones can have septic tanks installed.  maybe its planning permission or other local considerations.  one thing for sure its nothing to do with money.

Possibly because they date from a time when the majority of users weren't as bothered about facilities as some folks seem to be nowadays. I know you have a very small camper van without a bathroom or loo, but the vast majority of users do, and those who like using their own facilities benefit hugely from the often very cheap prices on the no facility Sites. Nowadays, a lot of quite small campervans have some kind of stow away porta potti, and folks are happy having a strip wash for a few days, perhaps popping into a facility site every few days as part of a tour.

Its a balancing act between all sites providing showers and loos and charging for these via site fees, or doing without them but having cheap site fees. The balance isn't too bad, although the Club lost a no facility venue last year, and will lose another this year.

that's why I go there I have a Porta Potti keep it under the seat as my camper is my main vehicle so use her every day , it's cheap for me at £11 night out of peak season £13.30 in peak and it's my nearest site I just pondered the reason sites not have facilities !!

I think if it were possible to have a toilet block on site the Club would want to build one as they could increase the revenue from the site. However if a site has no toilet block it's usually for a reason some of which some have already been mentioned. If a site is held on a lease, as quite a few are, it could depend on how long the lease is before spending £200,000 plus on a toilet block?

I had forgotten about the lease element DK, you are right. Just a shame so many lease sites seem under threat. There are some great no facility sites up and down country, cheap as chips most of them as well compared with fancier sites

Edit: we have never been to Hebden Bridge site GC, it looks really nice. Can you tell us if it has a decent (large, off lead, safe) dog walk close by, suitable for big dogs? We have never been sure, it doesn't seem to have one mentioned on site plan, and it is one of few areas of Yorkshire we don't have a map to show local footpaths? Thanks for any help.

If you walk out of the site and down the road there is a footpath to the left you may see some vans parked in a field ,how far you can go I'm not sure as I've turned off left and gone through some trees you will see the site below you ,you can also walk down the hill into Mytholmroyd itself ,you can walk along the canal to Hebden bridge although I haven't done it yet on Sat went into Hebden first had walk round found a park which is next to the canal ,if you want to drive you can turn left from the site carry on up the hill and you will see the reservoir long time since I went up there ,on Sun morn I turned left out of the site looking for a different walk saw a sign pointing to my left but couldn't see a way down so as there was sign pointing over the road tried that but couldn't see a way through when 2 deer ran out of the trees in front of me !

We shall probably get the OS map and see what's around. It looks a lovely site, not too far from home, and lots to see and do. We do like a good dog walk though direct from site if we can for that first morning walk and a last thing at night leg stretch. Hate walking dogs down roads, one of ours hates traffic, gets very frightened. Thanks for your help.

no probs if you have any more questions about places to take dogs feel free to ask as I do country parks a lot and frequent 3 within 50 mile radius of me ,and as a foot note first and last doggy duty go out of site left down the road short distance you will see some steps going down to an area with some trees near the stream ,go through there and come back up through gap in wall xx

No dog walk on site, unfortunately. I've had to use the pavement to get to the lane down from the site, but one can walk quite a way up the lane. There is a footpath directly opposite the site that was rather wet each time we've been there and so not used it. It's not too far from Hardcastle Crags where there's a good circular walk up the river valley.

Agree, no dog walk TDA, haven't been with Alfie, so didn't particularly look out for them last time we were there. If I remember correctly, it's about 3/4mile walk to Mytholmroyde, all on pavement, then you can join the canal walk to Hebden which is a nice walk of  about two miles....cool

We love 'no facility' sites.  Well priced, and the majority of caravans have all the facilities one might need.  These sites are usually peaceful in school holidays, and give those on a tight budget a longer holiday.

St Agnes Beacon has the best views of any club site, Marazion is a superb budget destination for West Cornwall, and Cadeside is a great stopover site.  And that is just three of the splendid no facility sites.

Enjoy them, use them or lose them!

I see in the mini-catalogue through the door from GOoutdoors a portable flush toilet for £35 - and a tent to site it in for £80. So no reason for anyone to shy away from sites where facilities are not provided for them.

And to reference the sentiment in another current thread - it stays as clean as you keep it!!
