Attitude of Wardens to cancelled booking.

Having been unwell recently, we were very much looking forward to only our second trip in the motorhome this year. We were booked for the Monday and it was only late on the Friday that we happened to learn that the weather forecast for the coming week showed a very cold front coming down across whole of country and being that we would have been on the cold East Coast we decided, that, as the purpose of our trips are for walking and visiting, it would be unwise in view of our health to embark on the trip. I 'phoned the site early on the Saturday giving 50 hours notice and explained the circumstances. Warden was very 'frosty' and warned that of course it would be logged against us. We understand the rules and appreciate that some folk may not adhere to these, but this is the first occasion for us and we love getting away so much that we certainly would not cancel without a great deal of thought. It was a low season booking on a very big site so cannot imagine that it would cause a loss of business. I trust that the Club understand that there are genuine reasons for cancelling and it may not be possible to be within the 72 hour rule.

Sounds to me as if you were simply told in a matter of fact way that it would be a strike against you.

It happens, however the Warden reacted just take it on the chin, forget it and carry on motorhoming smile I'm certain the Club knows there are genuine reasons but for simplicity it pays them to have one ruling only.

The club does understand that these things do happen and hence the 'three strikes' before any action against you is looked at. I am afraid that having a good reason to cancel is not enough for this rule (the logging and three late cancellations) to be waived in your case and the warden was just telling you it would be logged as it should be. I wouldn't have cancelled for a change of weather but you had to decide what's best for you in your circumstances. As along as you made your decision in good faith, as I'm sure you did, you have nothing to worry about.

What would you have wanted the warden to say or acted in a different way?

I wouldn't over worry about it - the warden may have been a bit short with you, maybe they'd had a number of other cancellations to deal with as well. The club will only take action if you do this three times in a calendar year and I assume this is unlikely. Just one to take on the chin I think.

And at least you haven't lost out financially because of the club's member friendly booking system! smile

Perhaps worth pointing out, in case you are not aware, that if you had booked another site at a more sheltered location for the same period, then no penalty is applied.

This has been particularly useful on a couple of occasions when my mum has ended up in hospital, and we have changed to a different site at short notice.

Many thanks for replies and tips. Maybe a bit sensitive as not feeling so good.

Just don't do it more than once again in the next 11 3/4 months and you will be fine!
