Wish I'd cut the lawn now. It's raining today. On the plus side that's got me out of painting the carport.😀

Thankyou Dave. I won't be commenting on anyone who attempts to disrupt what is actually a positive thread which was started to offer an alternative area for more social communication. People have a choice and I hope they enjoy bothsmile

" I have just found a broken pencil, now that is pointless!!! "

That takes me back a few years! The number of times I'd have children of, let's say, a reluctant disposition, turning up to lessons with nothing to write with - I'd just get a blunt pencil out of my desk drawer and say "I'd lend you this but I don't suppose there's any point"!  How they'd laugh (well the first couple of times they heard it anyway!). But amazing how often they'd then settle down to work.

I always found humour went a long way in the class room!  smile

    Wonderful thread this!

At last I no longer having to beat myself up believing I'm the only one dithering about all day doing nothing, or failing to invent perpetual motion, resolve the NHS crisis, stop the dishwasher squeaking, grease the corner steadies, or solve Fermat's Last Theorem.

    Peace at last. smile

Class wag to BIL teacher: "Sir, have you got a pen?"

    BIL reply: "Yes thank you."

Lesson on how to compose a question then follows.smile

I used to do that opening line, then it was

    me: Yes thank you

pupil: well can I lend it then?

me: Oh I'm sorry I thought you were trying to sell me one

pupil: no, I need to lend one

me: well actually you borrow I lend

pupil: (groaning) Can I borrow a pen?

    learnt a new word:

    Kakistocracy
Finally, we complete this little spin through the majesty of the English language, with another incredibly apt word… that’s probably never been more important than in these turbulent political times. First coined in 1829 by English author Thomas Love Peacock, and offered here without comment: Kakistocracy – a state or country run by the worst, least qualified, or most unscrupulous citizens

No political comment made of course

I had a similar problem in reading a knitting pattern, until I sat down and rewrote it in my own words.   I then typed it up on my laptop and kept the laptop open whilst knitting a few rows.  This made it easier to work out the 'repeat' and therefore that was the only bit I needed to remember, just looking up the first and last few stitches on each row.............!  Try it and it may make more sense when you've done it than it does when you see it typed here!!!

And I've had a not very pointless morning cleaning the bathroom and kitchen - which after eight weeks of my son living here badly needed doing.

We'll have an equally rewarding afternoon filling our cupboards and the fridge after eight weeks away........... probably wandering around Aldi first, and then Waitrose for anything we haven't been able to buy.

Finally got the OH to sort his clothes out to go in the van (now to re-do them)

Very windy here to day, nothing new there, sun is shining though cold.

Off to see BIL as it's his birthday today.

    'Ere, must tell yer this...........

Just been outside cutting my hedge when my neighbour leaped into her car, all of a fluster, with a bag of clothes for her 9 yr old daughter to change into at lunchtime.

The school had phoned to say that whilst everyone agreed that her kid's outfit as a tin of sardines was fantastic, Fancy Dress Day isn't til tomorrow.

    I'm still chuckling laughing

Her Mum is certainly in for a tough time though.

It's still dry here but looking as though we might get some rain. Had a nice time in a local garden centre this morning, choosing some plants for summer pots. Garden centres lift my spirits, oh and the usual coffee and cake helped too. smile

My favourite is when someone says “You haven’t got a pen I could borrow have you”

To which I reply “Do you know your right, I haven’t got a pen you could borrow - but how did you know that?”

We are off staying close to one of my favourite nurseries soon, Perry's Plants at Ruswarp near Whitby. They have a riverside show garden with a smashing old fashioned tea room, so a lovely place to spend an afternoon. Also on agenda this trip is a new nursery to me, Rogers near Pickering. I think they have a rose nursery. My list of plants for this year is growing......

Just had a look on Rogers website.....good job we are taking another vehicle as well, could come back full of rose plants! I use climbers as a tea leaf deterrent, better than barbed wire and prime collector of DNA evidence if the blighters do brave it!laughing Plus they might get Blackspot or Mildew!
