Leaving Malvern hills site next Week and traveling to Gowerton. Can't decide whether to take the M5 and Severn bridge or M50.

First time in that area for us

The M50 every time. It's shorter, saves bridge tolls and the A roads are absolutely fine whereas the M4 through Newport and Cardiff can be a bit hairy at times.

I agree with TW. Even if you want to stick to motorway most of the way, you can use M50, A40, A449 and join the M4 just east of Newport. This is a saving of 16 miles and £6.70 bridge toll, on using the M5.

Bridge tolls are only paid westbound, so if going back this way you could try the bridge and M5.

Thanks chaps I didn't know the bridge was free on the way out. Think we'll try the 50 in and the 5 out...
