Your favourite site & why?
We're new to touring and have taken 3 enjoyable trips in our MH. The sites we have been to were of a good quality and worthy of a revisit. What is your favourite site and why?

I'm not sure we have a favourite. In the 12 years we have been caravanning we have visited a lot of sites. I have liked the majority of them, often for very different reasons. The only one we probably would not go back to again, is Cherry Hinton, Cambridge. Nicely located for traveling into the city, but a rather confined site with a not very nice choice of pitches.

Very much like Steve. We don't have a favourite site. We won't be using Cherry Hinton again either. Not had a problem with pitches that I have had. Used it a few times over 20 years ago and I think twice in the last 7 years or so. Visibility on exit has become too poor for me. If we want a site nearly in that location I shall probably join C&CC and use theirs.

Have to own up to the fact that there is only ONE Club site I visit for itself, FB, most of them are pitching places in the area I am visiting because thereabouts I have other interests !!
In fact the one site has no toilet/shower block, no M/H drain point, no shops**, no fuel, no A T M nothing at all And I LOVE IT. My only moan is it closes through the winter !
** Shops, Fuel, cash points etc are about 20 to 25 miles away or so I am reliably informed -- Never actually measured it myself!!
Hope you find one or three that you like that much !!

EDIT :-- OOOO, Sorry nearly forgot to say which one it is
Its ALTNAHARA !! Don't over fill it please

Thirty three years ago, we discovered Yellowcraig Club Site. Such a lovely location, very informal layout, surrounded by beautiful scenery, wildlife and close to the delightful town of North Berwick. Such a lot to do in the area, castles, houses, museums, Edinburgh on your doorstep.
So busy nowadays, you have to pick your times to visit, but we had a lovely few nights there rediscovering things. Definitely one of our favourite Club Sites.

I knew what site it was, Brian. You didn't need to say
I have a photo taken there at 11.30pm and you'd swear it was only early evening.

Strange the first to replies mention Cherry Hinton, we also don't much like this site.
As to our favourite, we have a few that we go back to often but these tend to be in Scotland where we live. North Ledaig near Oban, Stonehaven, Balbirne and Forfar.
In England we tend to try different sites when we are traveling to and from the ferries so no favourite yet but we do like Seaview @ Berwick on Tweed. We haven't done many sites down south so couldn't comment. Wales, we like Lady Margaret's and Anglesey we like sites where we can get out and about and do things, also cycle friendly.

On my most recent visit, TW, I was sitting on the side step of the van supping a cup of coffee. Slathered up in Skin So Soft, watching the moon rise over the 'Ben and reflecting in Loch Naver. Thought of another coffee, looked at the time, half past one !! It really can reduce a grown old fool to tears !
Have to admit there's nowt like that in Crewe !!

I too agree with comments about Cherry Hinton; used it once on the way to one of the ports, found it rather a dark site, lots of trees.
Like Steve we don't have one single favourite site, we like different sites in different areas for different reasons!

Other than for logistical reasons, we don't often revisit the same sites over and over and over again as some do. That's the joy of touring, seeing different parts of the country and visiting different places of interest. One of our favourites over the years has been St Agnes Beacon in Cornwall, no facilities, and wonderful views and walks straight off the site.

Favourite in the UK is Hartford Bridge Touring Park near Tavistock, one of the nicest towns in Devon, and where you can sit on the bank of the river Tavy and watch for salmon.
And a tip for the four of you who have already said you don't much like the CherryHinton site - go over to the other side of Cambridge and discover Highfield Farm Touring Park at Comberton - wide open space on the site, spotless facilities, a signposted walk around the farm, and caring customer service from Beverley and her mum.

one of my faves is here in Yorkshire Wharfedale it has lovely dogs walks just off the site and 2 pubs within walking distance that allow dogs ,my other Fave is Poolsbrook country park as it's set in a country park so another great place to walk dogs ,being on my own I tend not to drive too far so unlike others I tend to find I stick to the sites that I know suit my needs

I don't have a particular favourite, it's quite nice trying different sites. But I like returning to Steamer Quay in Totnes. It's not everyone's cup of tea without EHU and it's just a small site but it's lovely to walk by the river Dart, take boat and bus trips and enjoy strolling round Totnes itself.

Our favourite site and the one we use more than any other is Seacroft in Cromer. We love Cromer and spend a lot of time there and Seacroft is ideally placed for the town and beach. I also agree about Cherry Hinton. We do use it during the winter as it's our closest club site, but only because of its proximity to Cambridge.

If i chose a "favourite" site it would be FM as it is where we have been going since the early 1980s,but we also use sites in the Cotswolds (most of them),and Norfolk most sites, is a popular destination for us,I do not think that any site we have been on we would not return to including Cherry Hinton (wheres the adventurer amongst you all!!),
We did Hillhead for seven years when grand sprogs were younger fabulouse site ,two now go camping with their partners
We do IOW Southlands also nice siteas my brother lives over there ,have been going before cc bought it

I've got no problems with Cherry H, it's a decent walk to the village or up to the s/market and an absolute doddle getting into the town itself ( much too small to be a City !! )
But I have to own up to badly missing the "County Showground" outside Norwich -- the only site I've ever been attacked on But at least it was a young quail that came out of a hedge by the golf area, attacked my shoe laces and thereafter repeated the trick when I walked off site !!

It's between Troutbeck Head and Melrose, both are within a two hour drive. I would say Melrose wins by a very slight margin as it is right in the centre of a lovely town while TH is further away from things.

Unlike other countries in the world the size of a town has nothing to do with wether it is designated a city or not.
According to the part of the British government known as the Department for Constitutional Affairs:
"City status is a rare mark of distinction granted by the Sovereign and conferred by Letters Patent. It is granted by personal Command of The Queen, on the advice of Her Ministers. It is for Her Majesty The Queen to decide when a competition for city status should be held. Competitions are usually held on occasions such as important Royal anniversaries."
Cambridge was granted city status in 1951.

Trevedra Farm near Sennen Cove in SW Cornwall. A place where we are at peace.

All the sites we have visited have been excellent, Favourite site, well their could be quite few Hawes, Sandringham, and Bridlington, Bridlington to blow the cob webs away, Sandringham always had brill weather and Hawes great to wander around the village and take in a few beers. Off to Troutbeck in 3 weeks pretty sure it will come up to all the sites we have visited. Never done Cherry Hinton so can't comment

We like the sites in the Best of British brochure, they always seem to strike the right balance for us. We loved the site at Pembridge in Herefordshire. Another one we liked was Lickpenny in the Peak district. Very hard to pick a favourite CC site...would probably say Rookesbury, but like others have said, it is nice to keep trying new sites.
