Hello All,

I purchased from amazon a double din radio/sat nav head unit for our East Fifer Fiat Ducato based camper van, I fitted the unit ok, but I found the unit would only work when the ignition is switched on, which I found not useful, there are times when you want to do updates to the android, or listen to radio when the ignition is not switched on/engine running, So I connected the yellow ignition on switch wire to the always on Red ignition feed to give me this feature, however I found that the unit, when in standby consumes 0.5 amps? which duly flattened the battery. So I am after a android radio/satnav head unit that can be used when the ignition is not on(not an unreasonable request), does any know of such a make/model. Thanks Jeff

AFAIK, ours is wired to the leisure batteries except when the engine is started, in which case it runs from the vehicle battery.

I think you need to find an alternative feed for the yellow. Wire it sounds like at the moment its connected to a circuit that is powered up when ignition is on. Instead it needs to go to something that is powered when he ignition is on the ACC (Accessories) on - ie the first click of the key being turned.

Where you get that from varies by vehicle, but most original radio feeds use the accessories feed rather than ignition. Did the original radio stay on when engine was off?

...but you really dont want the radiao connectd to a vehicle battery (unlike a car where theres no choice) unless the engine is on and the alternator is working.

ideally, not at all and using the leisure battery all the time, but some (uk) converters set it up like this as they dont seem to allow the habitation 12v systems to be live when travelling, so ypu wouldnt be able to use the radio.

ours switches to the cab battery only when driving.

i wouldnt want the possibility of a a cab battery draining due to leaving on the radio in the background....

Hello, In the software setting for the radio you can set a automatic switch off after the ignition goes off, which what I want, however when the radio goes off(standby) it consumes 0.5 amps, where I would expect it to consume say 20mA, if it did that I would be happy. Non of the double din radio/satnav units spec the standby current.
