Our European Motorhome Adventure
Good morning everyone,
We’ve set out on a family holiday adventure, flying to Italy, hiring a motorhome and travelling it back from Italy through Europe to the UK.
Day 1 is behind us and I thought I would send some notes and pics...
The flight went perfectly with BA. On board we met a number of excited fellow 'Motorhome Hirers'...
Arriving at the depot just after lunch time we unloaded the coaches and were led to our respective motor homes.
OMG! And a few other expletives were used when viewing the size of this monster I have to drive across Europe!
3m high and 7m long!
So after having a quiet word with myself about 'manning up' I took a deep breath and started this bad boy up.
So an hour later, we arrived at our first site. A convenient site located just off the motorway, but nestled deep into mountainous landscape of Italy.
Dinner was wonderful in the restaurant on site, run by charming locals who doted on the children as they ate their best lasagna and spaghetti.
My wife went traditional with their signature lasagna and I tucked into a beautiful seafood risotto.
After a few games of cards and some funny stories about the day we slipped into bed.
Two in the bunk above the cab, baby and mum in the rear bunks and I slept on the converted table, sofa, bed malarkey...
Day 2 started with a hearty breakfast of local bread from the bakery and a refreshed nervousness about driving Elvis (our newly named motorhome, due to the large 'quiff' hanging over the cab).
After a 4 hour drive through some of Italy's most beautiful terrain, we arrived at Lake Como.
The site is located at the edge of the lake with stunning views into the mountains.
Things I've learnt about Italy so far is that they build the most amazing and longest tunnels in the world and the food is superb!
What other vehicle can you stop to refuel the engine and at the same time prepare a fruit salad and grab a cold water out of the fridge to refuel the passengers... We are loving our motorhome adventure
Next update soon
