if they bring this in then I'm off will give up my membership I not get any benefits as it as they wont insure my camper and for a little above the peak season rates outside peak times I can go in a B&b and I can book with free cancellation

They brought in booking fees in the Caravan and Camping Club. From what I have read that was as popular as a fart in a lift

There was a time, probably 8 years ago, when I thought that bringing back deposits might be a good idea. But when I thought it through I realised that it would not solve any of the problems with getting a pitch at peak times as pitches were a finite resource and members an infinite one.

Why leave just because they introduce a deposit?  You're not paying any more overall - it's just being front loaded in exactly the same way as other holidays. Unless of course you cancel and forfeit your deposit?

To me it makes excellent business sense.  But then this is a members club.  Or is it a business?

You could ask why stay and pay £50 a year when you can pay a deposit anywhere? Unless there are other incentives that are made use of.

To me it makes excellent business sense.

That rather depends on how you look at it. As far as caravan sites go not requiring a deposit is quite a large marketing tool in that it differentiates Caravan Club sites for members from other commercial sites.

I like to book tours for the year and also Christmas breaks all at the start of the season. Would I prefer to book with CC and pay no deposit or book with commercials and pay £1,000 up front? The simple answer is that I would choose the no deposit option.

If you want to pay a deposit join the other club. You will however lose it if you cancel within 31 days and you will find the membership contains a whole load of people who hate it. There is no right nor wrong answer to this so just go with the club whose booking system you prefer.

I also agree with Wildwood & notice that the OP has not made any further comment other than on page 1 so perhaps he finally got the booking dates he wanted at the site of his choice.

That is one downside of CT,there are numerous times that some one will ask advise or request information or start a discussion then after numerous posters giving advise or information, normally in good faith and as some on here have great knowledge of variouse subjects, but the OP never returns to thank or acknowlegde any advise ,it is very rude

Very rude JV?, no one has to give advice. Those that do want to help. If it annoys anyone to a great extent then they shouldn't give the advice unless they are given a cast iron guarantee of gratitude. Help & advice is usually given without strings.

Sometimes, the forum simply will not let you get back to a thread you started yourself  ... what are you supposed to do then?  (just had a frustrating time in another discussion caused by the phantom 'duplicate post' issue).

It  is  one  reason  that,  wherever  possible  I  will  thank  a  "Returning OP"  for  his Thanks  etc,  The  politeness  does  work  both  ways  does  it  not   innocent

But as posted so many times, was it a booking cancelation ?and under the new system  with the forecast as it was it may well also have been. a cancelation has well

All that the club needed to do is extend the cancelation period to 21days under the present system
