Is Garlieston Dog Friendly?
Some time ago I drove by the Garlieston site and stopped the car to have a look and made a mental note that it wasn't dog friendly - was my snooping incorrect? I see it says dog walk offsite - but is there a wood path or enough grass for early morning and late night dog exercising?
Thanks in advance.

You can walk through the policies (the estate) of Galloway House which start just outside the club site, a lovely secluded wooded walk along the water side which leads eventually to another beach. Also plenty of beach walking at low tide and various walks in other directions.

We stayed a very long time ago pippah, and I recall a nice woodland walk adjacent, but not sure if it has changed now. Area around site looks to have more properties close by, and I can see some footpaths on google earth, but not sure if they are accessible. We wouldn't have stayed if there had been no decent dog walk, but it could have changed. I would ring Wardens for more help. Sorry this is a bit vague, but our stay was years ago, and places do change.
Edit: cross posted Brue! I thought there was an estate! Thanks.

We stayed at the site a few years ago, there were some really nice dog walks. We walked out of the site along past the new development and the followed the shoreline . The beach was good too when the tide was out.

There is no on-site or enclosed dog walk. For a "quickie" late at night there is a wide grass verge outside the site. For longer walks you can go the short distance up to the harbour and from there along the edge of the shore there is a scenic "off-lead" walk along a path to the beautiful sandy Rigg Bay - signposted as 2 miles, but my arthritic dog and I found it an easy stroll. Alternatively you can walk up the nearby drive to Galloway House (or take a 5-minute drive and park) and then walk down through the gardens and woods to the beach. It's also possible to walk along the beach/shore for a short distance just outside the site. The village is quiet, and if you walk up to the far end I think there is a lane going up through the fields.

Here's a photo of the walk leading past Galloway House. There is a gateway entrance just after the harbour area.

Thanks again - especially Valerie as that really answered my question - Phil being solo I don't do pubs generally (I remember the day when women were definitely not welcome in Scottish pubs!) but thanks anyway as part of my travels won't be solo. I haven't yet taken my hooligans into a pub although they have been ok outside a cafe!
Lovely pictures Brue - I think it's time I conquered the picture conundrum!

The owner of the oppositions caravan and camping site has a glass of beer on the table for his dogs to sup out of, that's how dog friendly they are. Not been down for a year or two now but have always found it a very friendly pub.

I remember seeing him in there too PhilH, nice cosy pub where all are welcome. Small local shop nearby as well.
Does this bring back memories, some good pics of the village and club site on the pub advert.
There you are Pippa, your holiday awaits you!
