    I think it's an oldies thing, older folk call pants-slacks, they call jeans-dungarees. I've no issue with what anyone calls it. Motor caravan is just an ugly name. Motorhome is better, or better yet-Mohocool

    Yep, I call mine a Motorhome , or should it be a "Motorbungalow",as it doesn't have an upstaireswink

    Pants US word for in the UK trousers as I have never in the UK heard jeans known other than jeans although they also came from the USundecided

    That is for low profile as the word bungalow was first named by the the builder who ran out of bricks and told his staff to bung a low roof on

    Still no clearer as to which is what - but it can be but a short while until the humble trailer caravan gets a new marketing inspired title. Perhaps the magazine of the Club might run a competetion to find out what the members think it will be called in future.

    A hint that might help us all in deciding what something is could be taken from the slightly extreme forms of motor competition where the "profile" is a determining factor.  So there are habitable vehicles that look the same from the side as a builders' van, others that look like an Asda (other suppliers are available) delivery vehicle, some that could pass as an elongated ambulance or even an ice crean vendor, bigger still that resemble a coach in appearance, the occasional one where the closest similarity is with a truck, and lastly the rather unusual, in the UK at least, articulated trailer.

    I think if I was to have one I would choose that later category!

    Forget using the V5 as a name check. Those little tin boxes we all drive around in, that come in a huge variety of shapes and sizes, are called PLG on the V5. Most of us call them "cars".laughing

    Interesting thread and one which I don't feel we will ever find consensus. I agree it is in part an age thing where marketing has pushed a particular name and people adopt. I think the term "motorhome' is now the most commonly used term by organisations, publications and manufacturer

    We refer to the "van" when we are talking between ourselves and call it a motorhome when talking to other people who are not familiar with our pastime. This is in complete contrast to what my father calls it, he refers to it as, "a bloody waste of money for a tin box on a lorry"

    We are all different folks and at the end of the day does it really matter?

    Just wish I could meet up with the fella in the caravan I met at Clumber Park a few years ago who in no certain terms told me he had priority over a pitch as he had a caravan and it was the Caravan Club and I should be grateful they tolerate motorhomes. Equal at last
