Why still no site in Essex?
We have just recieved the 2017/18 handbook & map having been members for 21 years, We always enjoy wonderful holidays on the Clubs excellent network of sites across the Country. However we are annoyed that since selling it's only site in our County of Essex i.e. Stanway Colchester a few years back the club has not made any attempt to replace it.
Yes while we have Certified Locations it would just be nice to hook up after work on a Friday afternoon & not have to sit in miles of traffic on the A127/M25 to get across into kent or equally as bad head Northbound A12/A140 into Suffolk etc. "been there done it many time left home in Southend at 5pm arriving Alderstead Heath or Bearsted Site at 20:30pm after sitting on the QE2 bridge for 2hrs" Other's may feel different but it's not my ideal way to start a relaxing caravan weekend
So we gave up with weekends & the Caravan sits on the driveway only used for main holidays.
Please listen to the Members, i'm sure there are others out there who live or want to visit Essex afterall it is a wonderful county & one of the warmest & driest in England urge the Caravan Club give us our own site in Essex Please!!!

Yes correct there are a few commercial sites, & also Caravan & Camping Site nr Brentwood so your point taken. however most you would not want to stay an hour believe me!
My point is, as a club member (& I realise the Club cannot just open a site for me alone lol) it would be nice to see Essex on the Clubs map!

The CAMC have made an attempt to have a site in Essex but had to pull out due to local opposition. The site was to have been next to Ardleigh resevoir nr Colchester.
If I recall correctly, the site that closed in Colchester was either a MUC or an AS so it wasn't the CC that closed it and the site is still there if you wish to use it.
Totally agree that Essex is in need of a CAMC site but there are plenty of alternatives such as CLs and sites outside the club network. Being a member of the CAMC doesn't mean that you have to stick to it, although I do get the fact that" you know what you are getting" is some comfort.
Not in Essex but have you looked at the clubs Ashridge Farm site in Ashwell, P101 in the sites directory. I would think that it would be doable from Southend in under 2hrs.0 -

I had assumed that there must e some 'decent' sites although I have not used any..

TB, it could be planning constraints, cost and availability of suitable land and other factors of which we are not aware. No matter how willing the club might be to open a site, it can't happen just like that.
Essex is not the only area of the country without a CMC site and I'm sure the club haven't decided to avoid Essex on purpose.

There is another thread here on the same subject.

Hello The Bridges
You state that the Club has made no effort to replace a lost Site in Essex. As a staff member I must ask how you know that?We are constantly looking new possibilities .The Club works very hard to provide quality sites in pleasant locations for our members.
