Fair enough, It's obviously not planning as such, then, but there is something somewhere that stops the Club offering pitches to members exclusively.

It used to be that sites that took members only were normally owned by the club or was in the lease, whereas most leased sites had it as part of the lease that non members and tents were to be admitted,

I notice now on the signs at our local site (leased?)that the new "ice cream company) sign states no tent pitches available

Maybe that post topic should have read: The same Club, getting better... or perhaps The same Club, just might get better........soon

I disagree with your interpretation of my previous comments. My previous post (on page 4) did not show any disrespect for the decision made and did not debate this decision.
I made statements of my own – albeit not in accordance with the claims made in the “closure notice” posted by Michelle.
I stand by my earlier post

On this we will clearly have to agree to disagree.

If the site is no longer accepting tents then either tents were not part of the original lease or the terms of the lease have somehow been re-negotiated,  I guess.  What is your local site? I could try and find out what has gone on.

On the subject of the new logo, love it or hate it, the Club have taken ideas from the original 1907 pennon to come up with this.  The original pennon was 2 C's (one reversed) with a V intertwined in the middle.  The new logo is 2 separated C's (one reversed) with an M in the middle and more modern looking.  I thought it was quite a clever idea basing it on the 1907 pennon, but personally I would have made it a bit bigger.  Unfortunately I don't have a separate photo of the original pennon - I found it on a National Motor Museum document.  If I find a way of extracting it from the document I'll post it up.

I never heard anything about a consultation I hate when companies and organisations say this and you never hear about it until it's done. I suppose if you don't belong to a centre you will never hear about it

Strictly speaking, there was no specific consultation, but the decision to rebrand was based on the result of several surveys over a period of time and the developmental ideas at EG. I guess some of the surveys even go back to a few years ago when we could sign up to receive regular surveys from the Club.  I'm sure many will remember these.

I think there has been a useful discussion on this thread which may give the Club some ideas on the way forward and especially discussion which could help in encouraging new/younger members which we must do without destroying what we can offer to our existing members.

I may have the terminology wrong here, but it is my understanding that Caravan Club Ltd is the legal title of the company and that the Caravan and Motorhome club is a sub group/ working title.

    Hope this helps.

On the subject of snobbery some thirty five years ago when we were wondering which club to join I asked a member of the Camping and Caravan Club what was the difference between the two. His answer was that in his club you would be invited round for a beer and in the Caravan Club you would be invited round for a sherry. Snobbery even then.

We have never been invited round for a sherry in thirty five years. Tea, beer and wine yes, sherry no.

Hmmm, I have shared a scotch, coffee, tea, beer but not wine also. So I wonder why Sparky saw Snobbery in this thread. Maybe it is because I said that if more provisions were made for tents that they should not be at the expense of caravan pitches and there was agreement? No idea.

Oh dear, I have umpteen bottles of Slovenian liqueur we drink and share. Are a few tots of liqueur drinking more snobbish than a sherry surprised, I do carry bottles of cider for the more down to earth amongst you laughing

I must admit to being disappointed that this situation has arisen at all.  Hindsight is a wonderful thing but we cannot turn the clock back and do things differently. we are where we are, as is often said.

How we move forward is even more important. I dont doubt that the re-branding was/is well-intentioned and that it is for the benefit of all members. After all, it is the membership that ensures the future of Our Club - and it is ours!

No doubt there are many members who have had to manage change in their own organisations, and may well have done things very differently to ensure that all stake-holders were aware and involved directly in such important changes to avoid discontent and acrimony.

I wait to see exactly what benefits for us, the members, actually come about as a direct result of this big re-branding.

Not surprised Compass as many may not be CC members and realise that the reason members complain is not so much name change nor even what many think to be a poor logo, but poor communication in general. That is my reading of many posts on here.

sparky, I'm interested to know on what basis you claim 'there is a lot of unhappy members' [sic]  How many have expressed this to you?

As others have said, saying the board is out of touch, while it may well be true, doesn't really help - what is it that they have done that has upset you, what would you like them to do differently?  How are they alienating younger members?

The club has never really been 'one club' as far as i can tell, we all have 'mobile holidaying' in common, but the way we do that and which aspects of it we enjoy has always been varied.  Some love club sites, some rallies, others prefer zero facility CL's - all the club does is provide the opportunity for all of those people to do so as they chose.  I may not agree with everything the club does, but it helps me enjoy my caravan to the max so I think it's worth paying the membership fee and am a very happy member.

I am not sure where you are coming from here, how do you come to this conclusion, where have you gained this information? I can assure you that I am not unhappy, I am not unhappy when I go on a CMC site and really enjoy my trips in the caravan. When on site I enjoy talking to other members and I can honestly say that I have not found 'unhappy members' when on site, quite the reverse! I am not sure what you mean about young people being 'cut off'. We take our grandchildren during school holiday time with us and they really enjoy the holiday, as do we. Do you want to see more activities on CMC sites (slot machines, pool tables etc etc)  I am not sure what the Club has got to do to encompass young people or if they need to do anymore than they do.  If you are saying that they should leave the Club alone, then I agree with you, why change something which is working and successful.

I am brand new member to the club, i'm very happy with all my dealings with club staff etc. I don't think i've met a more professional & friendly bunch of people.

On the "very unhappy members" issue we need to be pro active and try to get the club to be lead by the member for the member not just make a comment without giving a good base for the club to try and imporve the club.

In general I am happy with the club. Given a choice there are things I would change but that probably is true of all of us. My biggest gripe is the name change, not the actual change, as it is not a problem, but the stupid new logo and the money being spent on the rebranding which wherever it came from would have been better spent on sites and services.

The C&CC did the same sort of change many years ago but they stuck more to a name change at very little else. Their logo of a tent and caravan with a pennant over them is a far better idea than an anonymous thing we got. As a simple test I asked my wife what she thought it was when we got the news and she thought it was a crocus in the middle and connected with flowers.

We went to the Caravan, Camping and Motorhome show at the NEC recently as, I'm sure, many other members did.  Did you see the new stand?  It must have cost thousands.  All the staff had new shirts, fleeces, badges, all with the new logo on them. What a complete waste of money! Our money!

I was a caravanner and now own a little camper van. Love both! I think the same as the other member, as long as the sites are as good as they always have been and the staff as friendly (mostly) as always I don't care what the clubs called. What's in a name after all.

Another touch of irony, all emails from the club since the rebrand have been going into my JUNK folder😂😂
