Amazing what you find out by asking!

Hi guys. Yesterday at the show, I was wandering around as you do and was making my way to the Road Pro stand. As I walked down one of the corridors I noticed in front of me a guy who was trailing what appeared to be a weird fold up bike but I couldn't be sure as I had never seen anything like it before. I noticed it has small wheels. So, in for a penny in for a pound I stopped him and asked! What I found out was amazing. It was indeed a bicycle but like nothing I had ever seen. Not only was it really cute in the way it folded and opened but it was really quick to do- 2 seconds! Now that I have learnt how to put photos on the site I forward one of it folded and one with it open. It runs on Lithium Ion batteries and with two that fit neatly away inside the frame, this thing can do 20 miles at speeds up to 26kms per hour but I can't be sure on this last fact. It has front headlight, rear light and is registered with DVLA and even has a number plate! The chap I spoke too had tried to get a pitch at the NEC to introduce them the Britain but it was sold out- he is now looking at October! The website is www.e-goes.co.uk if you are interested. For a Motorhome it has to be a winner as the flexibility it gives is amazing and the space it takes up is the smallest ever isn't it? I had to stop talking to him as crowds started to gather and we were in fear of blocking up the thoroughfare! The only down side was the price but what a fantastic bit of kit! You can go shopping with this thing and not leave it outside- just pull it around like a suitcase!!

That was my thought as he picked me up off the floor after telling me the price. Mind you, it's beautifully engineered and Lithium Ion batteries are not cheap!  Had it been half that I would have ordered one! You can see the market they are aiming for though - the young wealthy executive who commutes into London or wherever each day and wants transport that is easy, (no pedalling)  convenient and that can be put in the office next to the filing cabinet until home time. Of course it will be fully charged when he leaves for home again! The fold up bikes at the show are half the price but this thing makes them look old hat.

Price, insurance, DVLA vehicle registration,....apart from that it is a brilliant concept.

There are other options on the market but they don't normally better a normal e-bike which has a similar performance (except top speed is limited to 15 MPH) and pedals when the battery is flagging!.

If the first sentence isn't a problem they are a great toysmile

These are also limited to around 15mph at 25 (or was it 26) kph.

Definite advantages for anyone with dodgy joints. I would not fancy cycling with a normal electric bike or even pushing should the battery fail. This I could fold, walk easily with, put on a bus or in a taxi.

As I said they are brilliant and like the other options they will obviously sell in small numbers.

The weight is particularly good at 14Kg and being able to wheel them is excellent....as apposed to carrying.

Looking at those tiny wheels, I think 25kph would terrify me.

Well if you have just spent £49k on a motorhome, why not?

It won't be a problem for some folk- perhaps 2 of these in the Motorhome 'garage' would be convenient- a his and hers.

I suspect the fact it has no pedals so no possibility of "pedal assist" dictates it having to be registered with the DVLA as it does therefore not meet the E-bike rules, despite only going one mph over the limits?

I suspect the same Ocsid. The one outstanding thing about this though is it's transportability! Not only on the road but walking with it. I noticed that when he folded it up, the two small wheels at the back extended by 2 or 3 inches making it possible to pull it like a suitcase - very clever.

Reading the blurb on them, this is a brilliant toy but expensive. On top of the purchase price you have the registration fee (£55 - the government would be in if they fell in!) Number plate, Insurance, Helmet - mmm, the cost is growing!
