Tyres
We are picking up a used caravan next week, how do we check the age of the tyres?

Hello and welcome 😃. There are numbers and letters on the wall of the tyre which give month and year of manufacture. I'm not totally sure which order they come. I found the answer by searching Internet, Google I believe but other search engines are available. I would locate one and attach here but I'm on my phone and it isn't so easy as laptop.

I did it but I don't think it will be live, copy and paste into address bar. 😃

The date of manufacture of a tyre is identified by a moulded-on four-digit code that is usually on the sidewall. The first two digits of the code represent the week of production during the year (from 1 to 52) while the second two digits represent the year of manufacture. So, a code 3414 would mean the tyre was produced in the 34th week of 2014. When buying new tyres it makes sense to tell the supplier that you will only accept tyres with a reasonably new date on them.
I recently purchased a new, to me, caravan but found the tyres were the original ones and nearly seven years old. When I pointed out to the dealer that caravan tyres are recommended to be replaced at five years old and certainly not used after seven years old they quickly agreed to put new tyres on even though they said they normally didn't change (legal) tyres on vans they sold.

Thank you for your reply, found them very informative.

Gently wipe the markings with white chalk and they will be easier to read.

The date code on tyre side walls are usually moulded into an oval surround. It's about an inch long. Tyre fitters are supposed to mount tyres so that the date codes are facing outwards, and therefore easy to see. On a second hand caravan I would check the specification of the tyre too, because sometimes tyres are fitted which are barely adequate for the loading. Rule of thumb is MTPLM/2 + 10%.
