Self Build Motorhome Conversions
Hi, Just wandered how many members have self build motorhomes / Campervans, Thought this could be a good section to share ideas etc. After many years motor homing at the age of 70, I decided to build my own, Bought a 2012 LWB Citroen Relay last December, took me 4 months, we went away in it eight times last. we can;t wait to start this year.

Building a Motorhome is one thing, posting photos on the laptop, wow, I will have to get one of the grandchildren to show me how to do that !!!.

I have self-built my campervans, a Ford Transit a long time ago and my current VW T5.
They're usually quite simple, just the bed, cupboards and electrics.
I don't have gas bottles or running water, it makes it a lot simpler for me, and as I don't cook much it would be a waste of money.
For around a fifth the cost of a VW California I have a van that suits my use case and that I can afford to repair and use.
I have found that using trades that don't usually do van conversions helps a lot. Having a carpenter make some cabinets is infinitely cheaper than buying from a "van store" and you get a bespoke design that suits you.

Yes I agree, I've not put gas in, I cook on electric, I've got two single beds that pull into a double, I've got running cold water, no hot water and a cassette toilet. I use a oil filled radiator for heating and a Plinth Heater if needed. Works really well. Its an on going project, still improvements to make as time goes on, Awning, On Board waist water tank, etc.etc. but no rush, We just get away in it as often as we can.
