Our MH is insured for up to 8000 miles; we go to France twie a year for 6-7 weeks and also in the UK we go away for about 7 weeks in total-ish. We do about 2200-2400 each time in France (return to the tunnel and back alone from here is nearly 600) and about 1000 in the UK.  Doesn't add up to 8000, but the next limit down was 6000, and we didn't feel that was enough, should we decide to go further afield.   We decided it was better to go for the 8000 in the first place; a good job as we exceeded 6000, albeit only by about 200 miles!

I wouldn't like to have to calculate whether we had enough miles on the insurance if we didn't do what we planned and wanted to go further afield; the 8000 limit, for us, has proved to be sufficient, but with room for manoeuvre.

We average about 7500 mls a year in our M/H. This year could be more as we are looking at going down to the most southern part of Spain in the Autumn/Winter and in the Spring we are doing southern France,Luxembourg, Germany, Belgium. Only taking the van this time so more miles going on it, usually have the trike for sight seeing once on site.

For a lot of contributors to this forum motorhomes/caravans are a passion not just a hobby so they will do a lot more mileage than the average. Look at secondhand motorhomes and you will see that most have very low annual mileage. It's difficult to do 5000 miles unless you do long overseas trips or are away for many weekends, particularly if you are still working.
