What a shame the  club does not have a site in this fantastic area .

Does anyone have any recommendations of CL's etc that are alternatives ??

Thanks

No recommendations but I did see this 10 pitch site advertised.

We visited the area from Seaview, Berwick-on-Tweed. It's not far away.

There is a CL called Fowberry Farm between Seahouses and Bamburgh, we have used it and liked it. It has a small, three pitch private site adjacent.

We have also used Waren Caravan Site as well on a couple of occasions, again very nice. Depends what your personal preferences are of course.

If you are heading up that way, take a look at these two small private sites, one near Warkworth, other further up near Beal and Holy Island.

    Walkmill Farm

    West Kyloe Farm

Both lovely. We have done repeat visits.

Both look nice sites and well priced at £18 to £20 with 2 adults and EHU etc.

They are both lovely ET. West Kyloe is an ex CS, has decent loos and showers, stunning location, and very peaceful most of time. Does get occasional backpacker calling, but they are usually very nice, too pooped from walking to be noisy. There are photos over on Caravanchat if you care to look, under England, Site reviews.

Walkmill is very different. Has space for around 15 vans I think, then separate camping area. Again has loos and showers in a big static van, you can also use small kitchen and lounge area in static if you want. All spotlessly clean, well organised. They even hire out a private exclusive to you loo as well!

The CCC have a club site called  Beadnell Bay which is  just south of Seahouses. (Sorry, Jacbear I've just noticed that you are from Tyne and Wear  so you'll probably know where Beadnell is and are likely to have passed the site.)

CCC  sometimes has a rally or temporary holiday site for members at a farm site between Beadnell Bay site and Seahouses.

(We find it beneficial being in both clubs.)

I was surprised that you felt it necessary to make a comment about backpackers.

Why shouldn't they be "nice" and why should anyone think that backpackers would likely be noisy?

We were at Braemar when there was a motorcycling event and because of all the individual tents the folk would meet up at night under a covered permanent canopy to have some beers etc. Yes it was a tad noisy as voices carry and we backed onto the camping area. Nice crowd though and when a couple noticed me by the caravan they apologised for he noise and invited me for a beersmile

My apologies, didn't intend any detrimental inference regarding any other type of campers. By the very nature of only having a canvas wall between them and the elements, tent campers (as we have been) can occasionally be heard talking, cooking etc... a lot easier than those in caravans. And of course are just as nice as any other person holidaying in their chosen manner!

I will rephrase my above post to avoid any further misunderstanding!

Tent campers, those backpacking on the long distance walks, motor home users and caravans all use this lovely site at West Kyloe, but it remains a quiet, friendly place and one we return to because it is such a nice mix of users.

Indeed TTDA. Groups in awnings or sat outside a caravan can be equally as 'noisy' as no doubt most are aware.

With  respect, they are not what I perceive as backpackers who had been walking as referred to by "take the dog along".

Honestly dunhelm, I did not intend singling out backpackers, (those who carry a small tent in their pack, while undertaking a long walk, most likely without a vehicle,) in any way. I have got that badge as well, been there, done the miles, smiled and chatted nicely with lots of other types on holiday!

The way one chooses to pitch up, be it in a small tent, a large tent, a yurt, a caravan (large or small), a camper van, a motor home, even under the stars, has no bearing on whether or not you will or will not be noisy or quiet, nice or a pain in the arse!

I merely mentioned backpackers, because the site in question is one that is popular with backpackers, and they are made welcome!

    Phew!smile

    "Take the dog along".

Thank you for your  last two posts.

I think that you made some excellent points  and I agree fully with the second paragraph in your last post.

Nunnykirk is not a million miles from there. Basic 'no loos' site. Very peaceful.

We have used Springhill Farm at Seahouses (its actually in North Sunderland, the inland end of Seahouses) Fantastic site, full facilities has a few pods and a bunk-house. Would use it again if in that area.

Been to Fowberry Farm twice in the past before I was non EHU. Lovely view of Bamburgh Castle! Some of the best chips I've ever had at one of the chippies in Seahouses and I remember the smoked mussels I got from the fish shop- yum yum!

There is the C&CC site at Dunston Hill and also just along the road from there a farm site called Proctor's Stead, both are excellent sites.

If only ET, I'm afraid I don't have the same experiences. Folk sat outside even just 2 can be an issue especially in the good weather, we've had times when we have moved sites or pitches to get away from folk who are inconsiderate. don't get me wrong I don't mind folk having a good time (we do) but is there really any good reason to sit until 2 or 3 am just talking yell

If they were nattering to 2am in the same 'van as me I wouldn't know as I would be asleep! Takes a lot to keep me awake. Difficulty for me getting to sleep is when it takes more than about 2mins.

Trouble is when folk get talking they do not always realise how far sounds travel and particularly it seems in the dead of night.

We used Proctors Stead on our honeymoon a long time ago! Nice little site, I recall walking through fields to Dunstanburgh Castle and being chased by a bull! We got away being young and fast, but I think the bull would win nowadays!

We voted West Kyloe our site of the year last year, stunning location, nice mix of visitors, and as peaceful and quiet as you could wish for!
