Chatsworth in February.
Hi,
We are going to Chatsworth in February, arriving on a Sunday.
We would like to go for a late Sunday lunch in Baslow and were wondering if any one would recommend anywhere, in addition is Baslow easy to walk to from the site?

Baslow is an easy level walk from the site (basically just go through the gate into the estate and turn left!) and there are any number of very good eateries in the village.
But, although slightly further afield and not within walking distance, might I recommend one of our favourite places to eat in the area -The Packhorse at Little Long stone, just down from the Monsal Head viewpoint. Exactly what a good old fashioned English pub should be like with excellent, sensibly priced food and well kept real ales. Dog and family friendly too, if that's a factor for you! Well worth the short drive!

Good to know Baslow is an easy walk away!
I have just googled the packhorse it looks very good and the perfect place for lunch!
l was concerned we would be tight for time having read entrance to the site is 1.00 pm and expect to queue! They are in fact open until 8.00 pm so no need to rush.
This is our first time on the Chatsworth site, looking forward to it!!

The Devonshire Arms is the nearest one to the walk through the park. We've had a meal there a few years ago, there is also the Wheatsheaf nearby and another place in the centre of the village. Take a torch in February, it will still be dark if you go later in the day.

Baslow is only tiny, but has eateries mentioned close by. Once you get settled in, I would recommend a visit to Bakewell, not far away. Lovely Derbyshire market town (market day is Monday) and has lots of very nice places to eat. For a nice lunch, I recommend the Honey Pot Cafe, only small but food is delicious.
Haddon Hall is not far away either, a lot older and far more interesting than Chatsworth, used extensively for films and TV. The gardens are superb, obviously better in warmer months.

Didn't know that, but we get in via Historic House Association membership, and not far from where we live, so for us a regular visit to see garden at different times of the year.
The CC's great days out offers are well worth having a good look through. We always save something like twice our membership fee every year by looking at vouchers and trying something different. For those touring with children there is lots and lots of choices.
Never stayed at Chatsworth site, bit close to home for us. House, gardens, estate etc.... are nice, but very very expensive to do the whole thing. We used to show horse there and have been with friends in Classic Car events, and you used to be able to do a lot for free on those days if you were exhibiting. We use a lovely CL at Cromford, and usually do Haddon either going or coming home.

Devonshire arms the nearest walkable eatery is excellent and serve Sunday lunch all day, if you have a dog you can also take them in with you. The walk from the site is left out of the back gate and keep going until you come to the road, left again pub on right. Not cheap but a nice pub. About 10 min stroll.

Chatsworth is one of our favourite sites and less than an hour away for us so we are regulars when we can get in. Don't forget if you go to The Wheatsheaf Monday to friday and show your CC membership card you get a 20% discount of the bill excluding other offers.

As you can see by our address we too live close by and are regular visitors to the area; this will be our first time on this site! We have never been able to get on before so, we are really looking forward to it.
We are regular visitors to the Devonshire Arms hence why we fancied a change l am sure we will pop in though😉
The Wheatsheaf 20% discount is generous and we are looking forward to sampling the Packhorse as recommended by moulesy.

The chatsworth farm shop (at pilsey or is it pilsney ?) has a very nice cafe the food is lovely , and the shop tho pricey has a rich variety of produce if you like interesting butchery/cheese/pastries etc i sometimes go on a sunday morning for breakfast cheers mrs bc:)

There is also a resturant attached to Chatsworth House. Just walk through the back gate and head up to the house. You don't need to pay an entrance fee for the house.

Don't forget to keep your site receipt with you. if you visit the farm shop or cafe between 9 and 11am and between 4 and 6pm you'll get 10% off all purchases. We go for the full English at 9am at £8.95 and get the discount.
