Dog Safety Gate for caravan door
Hi, wondered if anyone can help with some suggestions. We have just bought a brand new swift caravan, but unlike our old van it does not have a split door.
So we are looking for any help as to how other Caravan users have got around this issue, we have two westies and I love them dearly, and would not want to loose them on any caravan site. We have looked on the web and their are some child safety gates, but not sure if they would fit and obviously we would not want to damage the van.

In our last cvan we kept the door shut but opened the window within the door. That's much the same as having a split door.
In our MH we jammed a board across the doorway and he was well behaved enough to know he shouldn't cross it.

We have used a travel stair gate in the past, they fold up easily and can be adjusted. On our present motorhome we can open a folding cupboard door and this swings out over the lower part of open door. Alternatives are home made boards etc.

Ours has a fly screen door as well as normal door ( if that makes spence) both dogs know not to go out then

We use a wire drying rack like this which just fits across our MH door frame when folded up. It's lightweight, sturdy enough to keep our King Charles Spaniel at bay and folds flat when not in use. I love things which serve more than one purpose.

we bought a slimline child safety gate from argos for our coachman, as we have a solid door too. it came with cups so you can fit it using pressure, but we chose to use the little screws and screwed the cups to the wood panelling as the double sided tape wasn't strong for our medium sized dog. The plus side to this is we can leave it there permanantley even when towing, just close and lock it and it doesn't move. Plus its not putting too much pressure on the panels that its fitted to. hope this helps.

Exactly what we were thinking. We have a beagle and hes not got a brain. Lovely dog but if he gets away its an horrendous job trying to catch him. Something like a child gate for caravans would be perfect.
Somebody....anybody come up with a design and start selling the bloody thing. I will buy one for £100

I posted earlier in the thread that a children's travel stairgate should work ok. They are fabric based with sturdy collapsible poles and can be adjusted to fit large or smaller gaps. Ours worked very well previously and was light and easy to store when travelling. I think ours came for Argos, worth a look.
Hope you find something, I know how much Beagles like to pick up a scent and they're off in a trice, tail in the air, gone!

Without wishing to appear rude to the company, having looked at them, would have thought it was something you could make yourself for about a fiver! Very surprised that Swift don't fit a flyscreen to the door. Our mad cockapoo knows that when that is closed on our van, she doesn't try to get out.

We use a sheet of thin plywood (3mm) held up by Velcro. I cut some slots for a doggy view, Although it maybe better if the view was not so interesting ( happy emoji face)
The velcro can be removed at a later date with a gentle pull aided with hot air from a hairdryer or heat gum.
