Alde 3020 not working

Merry Christmas to all

I have an affinity 554 2016 , which has alde wet central heating. I took it for its first service on 12 December 2016. We thought about going away after Christmas.  So on the 23 December I put the heating on and within a short time the van was nice and warm, so I left the heating on over night.

I went back into the van in the morning and it was still lovely and warm.

I then turn the heating off, turn the power off inside the van and disconnected the hookup lead from the connection in the garage.  As I needed to use the socket for another purpose.

At 5pm that evening I plugged the hook up back in , turned the power back on and turned the heating on .  I went back into the van 2 hours later and the van was still chilly. The temperature had only moved up 1 degree at 14 , a long way short of the 21 degrees that it had been set to.

The control panel shows the pump as working, but you can usually a faint noise when the pump is on . And now it is silent .

Does anyone have an idea as to what the problem might be.

You say you cannot hear the pump. You can certainly hear a slight whine from ours when it is on. Although the heating fluid will not circulate without the pump, it will still heat tap water if present. It might be worth checking that out. At least it would tell you if it is just a problem with the pump, or the full unit.

Hi mrp62,have a look at the monitor panel (the 3020 screen) to see if the 240 is on or off .Gas on or off.My overall general panel also is connected to that too.Trial & error investigation otherwise !! Hope you get it sorted .wink.

    Thanks for the reply

I was wondering if an air lock could be the problem.  However I'm not sure if that could be the problem as it all worked fine the previous day when the heating was left on for 16 hours. If there was an air lock would I still be able to hear the pump in the header tank in the wardrobe

I had my fluid changed at the last service from the two year to the five year. Took me an age to bleed the system when we went on site the first time we needed some heat. Didn't realise until some time after we put it on and it wasn't getting warm. Fortunately the dealer had given me some fluid to top it up.

I had a problem with Alde 3020 with the pump not working. I contacted Alde and they were excellent, responded within 15 minutes to the email.   For some unknown reason the control panel had changed the pump settings. Alde suggested the following which solved the problem

"You should untick Main Manual 12V and make sure that Optional Pump has a tick in it."

Thanks for the info..Both the main manual 12v and the optional  pump had ticks next to them. I found them in the installed accessories.

I unticked the manual 12v and unticked the optional  pump. Then re ticked the optional pump. But still no sound coming from the pump.

Did alde explained why the main manual 12v pump had become ticked?

Once again thanks  for your help. But I think I'll have to wait to 4/01/17 when alde reopen and contact them.

Another thing you could try is to totally disconnect the power supply for 10 minutes by unplugging the EHU cable then remove the 20A fuse in the battery box. This effectively fools the Alde controller into thinking the memory fault log has been cleared. Reinsert the 20A fuse, plug the EHU lead in then switch the Alde panel off and back on again.

Does your Alde control panel show any red or yellow triangle messages as you scroll through the menus?

Thanks for the info . I did as you suggested . But pump still didn't work . So maybe it's just a case of the actual pump failing

    Hello mrp62

Have you checked the clock & timer settings?. I often find these need to be reset if the power has been off.

Check the obvious power at the pump.

And the fuse or fuses under the boiler black cover.

What's rather weird is that when you turn the control panel it shows the exterior  temperature on the display  screen . The temperature  is completely  wrong and I don't  have that facility.

In the settings there is a reset  tab to press, next to the installed accessories.  Will I do any harm if I press that?

I would try hitting the reset button as this will restore factory settings (I think). I'd also check fuses as well though as it seems your pump is not working.

Had similar problem a couple of years ago with my Affinity 550.

One suggestion was to tilt caravan forward by lowering jockey wheel then tilt back by raising. This did not work for us so had to take back to dealer who put it on some sought of pump overnight to clear air lock. What is level in wardrobe expansion tank? Ours had dropped quite low.

    Breaking news,

First up many thanks to the vanners  who have attempted  to help me solve the problem.

We'll in 2 days time the Alde people return to work so first thing Wednesday I'll be on the phone to them , or will I .

We'll for some unknown reason I decided  to remove the pump from the header tank. Not too sure what I was looking for , but I just did it well it all looked alright.

So I turn the heating on and the pump started to work. I left it for 2 hours at it got to 21 c from a start temperature  of 4.5. This was on the 3 kw setting.

Now I'm sure it used to do this a lot quicker , but there again I'm not 100% sure. But the van is nice and warm . Shall keep testing  over next couple of days before contacting Alde .

I have an Affinity 554 also and found I had to do a lot of experimenting. I also had a good experience with Alde. They told me that in the UK they do not fit as standard a 240 V pump so the 12v must be ticked in the control. If you disconnect the mains and do not have an onboard battery, or you turn the 12v master off in the van you loose all your timer settings and therefore when you connected up the control may have been reading an out of active time.  In other vans I have had, when going out for the day I turned the 12v off, but now leave it on so as not to loose settings. The temperature settings are strange in that the sensor is in the control unit and usually near the top of the van also near the radio, a heat source, all of which tend to give an inaccurate reading, unless you have an additional sensor fitted. These cost around £18. It is possible (maybe you know this) that you can offset the temperature by 5 degrees to compensate the discrepancy of the readings. Whilst on the subject I have replied many times to post ref; noisy pumps. make sure the fluid level is right on the max line in the header tank as the pump  impellor slushes around causing the noise. My advice is keep playing around noting what you have done and you will get it sorted.

Did you do the factory reset DRP. I had a problem last year after a service. When I investigated I decided that the unit was on 'Boat Setting' or a similar term. I did a reset and all was OK. I think the reset also brought the gas on which I then turned off at the control.

The recommended level is 1cm above the MINIMUM when cold. The extra room is to allow for expansion.
