It could have something to do with the fact it was not possible to do from a pad, or phone. Both of which are possible now. How you can imply the new system is not bullet proof is beyond me. I don't need to use some off site storage. I can take a photo from my photos, reduce it in a convenient app ( I believe resizing was also required on the old system) and post it. Total time taken about 1 minute. If that is considered faffing about, I am happy to do it.

    SteveL,

The new website allows you to post expandable thumbnails, but not full-width photos as I have just done (see above). Like DSB we store photos in the 'cloud' which means they're accessible on line. We could also insert them into the flow of text in 'Stories' rather than slide show viewer.

It would be nice to have both procedures available.

I would not disagree with what you say. The point I was making is that the provided method, even if more limited, opens up posting photos to a lot more folk. Plus to say it is a faff, as K did, is in my opinion just not true.

I think the Story section is ruined by the new method as you can't add photos within the story by simple means. Whilst the five photos you can add at the start of a story are well done I think even the current method of adding photos to any post is awful. Photos added should appear full size (500 pixel width max) in posts rather than as thumbnails. Whilst they need a system that covers all platforms it seems that in order to allow the use of Apple products they have had to compromise so much you do wonder whether there is much point to it all? It is beyond comprehension that they have introduced a system which requires all photos to be uploaded the the forum server rather than the simple means of a URL as used by most forums.

You mention Apple products David, were you able to load photos from Android devices? Whilst I would agree it would be nice if both systems were available, for those that want them, the system of 5 expandable thumbnails does open up photo posting to the masses. Whilst the quality is not brilliant, it is certainly adequate. It also means that those who have no wish or desire to upload their photos to the cloud, can now post photos.

    Steve

Whilst I have an Android phone I would not use to load photos to a website, except perhaps Facebook but even then I would prefer to do it from my PC. I have sent pictures taken on the phone by e-mail but otherwise I would find it far to fiddly and time consuming.

Ironically have you noticed, apart from the early days of the new forum, how few photographs are now actually uploaded to the forum?

The lack of pictures is cos its stil far to much of a faff. I had a go last night to load a picture of Molly One Ear but gave up when I found that the max picture size was a ridiculous small 500 & as Im on a tablet I'd no idea how to resize.

I would agree that currently there does not seem to be much use of photos. However, I was putting this down to the time of year, with not many folks out and about. I would expect it to pick up. Only time will tell.

MM I don't know what tablet you have but if an Apple device you can download this resize app, which is free and very easy to use. Literally takes about 1 minute to resize a photo and put it in your post. It saves the image back into your photos but does not overwrite the original. If it is an Android device the same app seems to be available. I could not figure how to put a link to the play store. However the photo below shows what it looks like.

Nope  ---The post and photos above were OK for a few minutes --- then Images disappeared when an internal server error message occurred.

Waste of time -- Was much better with photobucket and the Old forum for posting photo's. No glitches or error messages. It was bulletproof.

Don't think I'll bother posting photos on this forum again. yell-----------  Other forums I have no problems with.

    Cheers..................K

    David,

The approved method for posting photos from Flckr to other forums is to select "down load all sizes", then copy and paste the downloadable image - (but do not download). It's an odd procedure but that's what Flckr help tells you to do. Until the CT upgrade this worked fine.

Nowadays the copy and paste doesn't work but 'drag and drop' does! Maybe CT changed the code to stop people using Volvoman's method.

Try drag and drop with a photo from your own site  - it might work.

    Here's another example

Hope you don't mind my experimenting! File size seems to important. 600 pix wide is now the optimum fit for discussions.

Note: I'm using Firefox and windows7

I have never used 500 so hope you don't mind if I also try. We saw this @ Heritage Motor Museum Jaguar/Landrover off M40 when we were staying @ Warwick CC

500 works well, I've just tried Chasncath's method but it wont work for me.

I'm happy with the 500 pixel and if the scrolling issue is improved as we've been told it will it seems good. I don't store photos anywhere except on my pc.

I also only store photos on laptop so I guess that’s why chasncath’s drag & drop method will not work for me either.

It seems that Firefox might be the answer. I know I have mentioned this before but when I visited East Grinstead about five years ago they were using Firefox as their default browser. That could be totally unconnected but then again!!!

I have tried without success but I am using Windows 10 and that might be the issue?

It's all a bit of a puzzle, but did you notice that I had dragged and dropped a photo from your website? I actually managed to drag one of your bigger photos from your last European tour, but it was too big for the CT page. Apologies, if you think I'm taking liberties.

Firefox and W10 will work with dragging it in as long as it is hosted. This was dragged from my free website I use to store the odd photos I wish to share.

Ah, I seem to have succedded. I think where I was making the mistake I was trying to drag from Firefox into Chrome, which of course, does not workembarassed I only downloaded Firefox last night and have also put in place the tab add-on so that I can work side by side.

I will try a larger picture to see what happens, that won't work as it just copies the photo into the browser not the post. How do others resize? I do have the option of loading the correctly sized photographs into a new webpage and working from there but not everyone has that option.

Thanks to those who have helped, especially Chas and David and no I didn't mind the use of the photos.

    David
