Sunny today, meantime, here in Kendal.  Yesterday was dry but very windy until about midnight, much less windy over in Windermere.   We went over there to Lakeland to stock up on a few things for us and DD, and also had lunch in their restaurant.  Very easy to spend a lot in the store!

Today we need a little food shopping and fuel for the car, looks like Sainsburys and Morrisons just down the road are both the same price for diesel.

Quite a turnover of outfits on the site as there are a lot of MHs, possibly more than usual as the Spital site nearer town is closed at present.

Off to the doctors for us for Covid and Flu jabs. Rain has curtailed our plans so it’s a paperwork day, insurance, tax, tracker subscriptions and booking in of MOTs/services for all vehicles. This happening at the same time for us, I don’t recall planning it this way, it just seemed to happen. Costly month but all over and done with in October and then forgotten for 11 months.

Planning our next visits too, North Yorks coast and then Clumber and Cambridge. Let’s hope all goes well for the MOT’s. I’ll be paying my deposits for sites so fingers crossed.

"You may remember that I had to replace the one in our Touareg not so long ago, it is a pain that it is under the seat as it makes it a lengthy process."

Not as lengthy as our main dealer made out Kj! I remember when I collected the car, I asked the salesman where the battery was because it wasn't under the bonnet.

"Under the passenger seat", said the salesman "and it's a two day job to change it".

When I mentioned it to our local (small) garage who do all the work on our cars - they fell about laughing and made an inevitable disparaging comment about main dealerswink.

Never seen them actually pouncing on birds feeding, but they do raid nests. It’s often squirrel v Magpie/Jackdaws here, at certain nesting times of year☹️ Lots of squawking and shrieking. Couple of local cats like to join in the mayhem as well. I water pistol the whole lot at times🤭

Oh has put up lots of nest boxes, different set ups, to attract the smaller song birds, and we still have variegated hedges, so we get a lot of nests. Wrens like to use those little nest pockets, line them with moss and they keep warm all year round. Blue Tits, great tits, Coal Tits, and we did once have a Goldcrest nesting in a small conifer. We have resident Sparrow hawks close by though, so it can get a bit fraught. Buzzards are close by as well. I have seen a pair of Ravens a few times up at Mum’s, goodness knows where they are living, but a great sight to see.

Our big Jeep can be like this occasionally. OH replaced alternator a couple of years ago and this improved things. But it takes a heck of punch to get things rolling, so we try and use it on a decent run most days. We have a spare battery in garage that is kept charged, so if it won’t start, it’s an easy swop over. Meanwhile, MH can go two three months without rolling a wheel and so far has always started. I think it’s all the sophisticated stuff on modern cars that needs the oomph. The Jeep clicks and whirrs to itself long after ignition is turned off. Computers, alarms, switching to German language…..🤣 a mind of its own!

We were supposed to be going to Exeter for a day out today, OH likes to go there now and again, but Ive been feeling under the weather yesterday and today, not ill exactly just not right, I’m wondering if it’s anything to do with the two injections on Saturday but it seems a bit late. I tidied up the garden for a bit but couldn’t keep it up so I’m sat with my feet up. I was looking online and on a whim booked a couple of days away in a Travelodge next month, OH said he hopes I’m back to normal tomorrow or I’ll have time to make more plans and spend more money.

We moved the bird table, so far so good, but we’ll see, the squirrels seem to be looking for a way up. I’ve found there is less spillage of bird food… or birds just chucking it on the floor, since we got the caged bird feeders, they don’t like to sit on them feeding for too long, they seem to grab and go, so hopefully far less wastage.

A fine calm sunny day after the wind and rain of yesterday. OH did another roundabout washing today and it was dry by mid afternoon. Drove through to Hawick for a wander around, filling up with diesel at Morrison's where it was 130.7 per litre, the cheapest we have seen at a supermarket in a long while.

Just back from a brisk evening walk when this suddenly appeared. Lots of folk out trying to catch that elusive photo with their fancy kit, took this on my old iPhone. You can see the blade of the plough, wish I’d caught the whole constellation in the frame.

Lovely photos of last night.  We had to have a 5 minute break in rehearsal last night so the folk could go and have a look at the 'northern lights'.  🙂  Mind you, practice last night was also a bit more unusual, as I got them all playing kazoos....  🤣🤣🤣

In case anyone is interested, try the AuroraWatch App. Free to download, gives you a ping when it might be visible. Readings were very high last night. You do need a clear sky of course. Even if you cannot see it with the naked eye, try using an IPhone (or similar) on night set photos. Low light pollution is obviously better as well, but not essential.

Hope those that are away at the moment enjoy good weather and have a pleasant time. We visited Harestanes Country Park where we had a coup!e of walks, but didn't bother with the ascent to the Waterloo Monument this time. It has been another fine day but a bit cooler than yesterday.

Well I'm in shock, we had 2 full days and nights without rain! Quite a frost Friday morning, remained on the shed roof until almost 8am. But the upshot was the aurora over the village Thursday night. Not visible with the naked eye or my phone camera 😡. Fabulous photos, of my views from the window or garden, with beautiful aurora on the village FB page 😪😪😪

I'd been checking all evening, cloudy. Went to get ready for bed about 10pm, looked out the window I could see stars! Dressing gown on and outside. Definitely a slight hue. Stood in the front garden with my phone camera, seeing nothing. WhatsApp text pops on screen, the Close group. Photo of it over the roof I was looking at with the aurora over it. Another neighbour, said thanks I'd forgotten, went out posted a photo within minutes from the back of his house. I still saw nothing! Came in with very cold shins. If I'd been dressed I'd have knocked on their doors, but you mustn't scare the natives. I crept about close to hedges and buildings so as not to trigger the sensor lights - so a bit dodgy looking anyway 🤣

Much phone camera examination yesterday, no night setting, so armed with another camera and phone last night. Nothing 😪😪.

Cut our 3 lawns, which idiot chose a bigger garden and house?, yesterday. It was long and lush. Every other up required basket empty and under mower clear! It looks good now.

Otherwise just been pottering along. Had our flu jabs last Saturday and we've both felt 'off' most of the week so nothing exciting.

Good to read other's news and see photos. House guest again!, last night only 3 weeks since his last overnight so less catching up. But 2 nice plants for my garden a cape lily and dog wood. Both very welcome.  Just waved him off.

I'll peg out some washing, but forecast saying showers possible.......... Then head off with the dog. No other plans yet.. Younger family members still having lots of friends visiting, from far Oban for a few days stayed at the cottage and more local Essex and really local. Highly likely I'll feed them all tomorrow. But I need to buy food, all stocks of larger protein have been eaten. But I'll have to chat to them later. Son was back at work so everyone trying to find the 'new' routines.

Enjoy your weekend however you spent it.

We had our covid jabs on Wednesday and felt definitely 'below par' for a couple of days - very tired and heachachey - and just wanted to sleep. We were supposed to go on a U3A church visit on Thursday afternoon and a talk at the History Society on Thursday evening but sadly cancelled both. Luckily I had enough energy today to lead a tour of Peterborough Cathedral as I had the maximum number of 15 people. I felt a bit like the Pied Piper! They were all lovely people and none of them local. The ladies on the Information Desk said that there had been a lot of visitors from abroad including a couple from Iceland and some from Iraq. It rained for most of the morning but has now stopped.  It is the Gt Eastern Run here tomorrow which goes past our house (twice, both going out and coming back) and our SIL and a friend are running in it so we will all be out there cheering them on.

A rather wet cool day. We had a short dry walk along by R. Jedwater before going into the Abbey just as It started to rain, so that cut our viewing short! More heavy showers during the day, but did manage to get Flyte out a couple of times without him getting very wet. This was our last day here before we head back into England tomorrow.

The river here is very popular with Grey Herons as we have seen at least one ever time we have walked by it and I saw 3 this afternoon. Not the best of photos but the best I could manage at the time!

We’ve had a nice day today took a drive down the coast to Port Patrick and had a lovely lunch at the Harbour House Hotel excellent as always we had planned to have a walk around the harbour but when we came out the pub after lunch it was freezing cold and began to rain so we took a drive back up to Stranraer instead and walked around there for an hour or so. Got back to the van about 6 and have spent the evening watching the tv and having a few drinks. Was very windy here earlier but it seems to have died down a bit now hoping it stays like that as we are pitched at the top end of the site which is quite exposed

Nice day, though very cold.  Left Kendal at 09.50 and arrived home just after 12.45.   Not too busy on the roads.

Had lunch, moved van onto driveway, then went to see DD and the boys and catch up on family news as she had been over to visit her brother.  Grandson is settling in well at Uni in Stirling, and has made 3 new friends, which is a lot for him as he is very quiet and a bit shy.

Back home for dinner, we will need to start unpacking everything  from the van first thing tomorrow.  Meantime we have emptied the fridge so it can be switched off.

We woke to a temperature of 1C and the car's windows covered in ice! By the time we were ready to leave all was clear and we had an easy drive down the A7 and the M6, which we thought was rather busy. With a lunch stop just before Longtown we arrived at the CC's Troutbeck Head site at 1:10, and were 4th in the queue! However the site is only about 1/4 full, with caravans outnumbering M/Hs 3 to 1. It is our first time here and like the central area, but am not impressed with parts of it, in particular where the serviced pitches are which has no outlook other than other units. We made use of our free night so the price for two nights worked out equivalent to staying on a CL.
