Just had a weekend at The Hawthornes CL near Pickering.

The access to the site is OK, but the inclined field of wet grass
totally defeated my front wheel drive car and we got stuck in
the gateway. The owners offered use of the tractor, but they couldn’t get it through the gate of course. Luckily there were enough other people on hand to manhandle the van up the slope.

The site is on the busy Pickering road, but there isn’t much traffic noise, facilities are basic, no showers, but the toilet is OK and the tap, waste disposal etc. are quite sufficient.

It’s five minute drive into Pickering, or a thirty minute walk to the nearest pub and chippy. Very handy location for the steam trains, North Yorks Moors. Scarborough and Bridlington are close enough for a short drive.

Advertised on some sites as £10 to £12 a night, it was in fact £14. Still nota bad price to pay for a pleasant site with good views and close to lots of sites of interest.
