Day 2
Up early head for the train. Eurotunnel their usual efficient check in, just parked up when our boarding called. Head through security and customs, straight through the lanes and down to the train. Boarding slower than usual and starting to look like we're not going to fit. Boarding controller tells us to wait while she goes to find out what the problem is. Few minutes and she waves us in and starts to close the doors behind us. Last ones on. Forty minutes later heading out onto the motorway towards Rouen and the dreaded diversion.
We're heading towards a site off the A13 called Fosse Rouge near Vernon. Small site with about 60 pitches, half static. Pitches are varied in size and can be a bit bumpy/slopey but not usually a problem. This is definitely a site for levelling blocks! Electric 6amp with CEE17 blue sockets. As on most French sites polarity is a lottery but as all the posts were replaced two years ago they are in good condition. As we've stayed on this site several times we're in no rush. Easy drive, to arrive early and get pitched before the evening rush. On the approach to Rouen the overhead signs are giving us the diversion directions, head towards Le Havre then D150, D151. I've already decided that a better route for us is to continue towards Pont Mathilde and take the D6015 (old N15) that should take me down the left bank of the river and not cross until much further down. Seemed good until we enter Rouen and as we approach the bridge we encounter lots of cones. Just starting to think I've missed the turn off when there it is, the last one before the roadblock onto the bridge! Phew that was close. Follow the signs towards Vernon until we see signs for the A13 and back onto the motorway. Will remember this route for future reference. Much easier than crossing Pont Mathilde and going all through the industrial zone and quicker too. Arrived at Fosse Rouge, booked in for three nights, legs down, open the beer.
