Danish beach site not far from the ferry

Today we said goodbye to Norway and began the journey home; during the next week we'll be travelling back through Denmark, Germany and the Netherlands to get the return ferry from Rotterdam to Hull. The ferry today was a super speedy twin hull from Kristiansand in Norway to Hirtshals in northern Denmark. We had early start, leaving the site at 5.30 in order to make to the port for the agreed 60 minutes-before-departure check in. The girls stayed in their pyjamas for the journey and didn't change until we arrived in Kristainsand.
The journey across the North sea with Fjordline only took two and half hours and we arrived in a sunny Denmark mid-morning. The site we were staying in was an hour away but we stocked up on food and petrol (much cheaper!) on the way. Gronhoj Strand Camping was a one-night stop but luckily we arrived in the afternoon and were able to appreciate the site and its facilities before carrying on with the journey.
It is a large site, very well organised so that you don't feel very far away from anything. The pitches, flat and grassy, are grouped together in sections that are surrounded by hedges with a toilet block near-by. It is not just a toilet block because as well as the toilets and showers, there are the usual cooking facilities (attractive, clean and spacious) and a TV / games room. Depending on which block you are near, the games room offers table football or a pool table.
There are a few playgrounds around the site with swings, climbing equipment and jumping pillows. The main central one, larger than the others also has zip lines, birds nests as well as some resident pet goats nearby. There are also ponies on the site and, depending on the season, free rides are given between 10 - 11 in the morning. Next door, there is a mini-golf course and equipment is available at reception to hire.
As the name suggests Gronhoj Strand isn't far from a beach (strand). There is gateway in and out of the site and a pavement beside the road that leads to the beach 700m away. It is an impressive beach - a large expanse of soft white sand, bordered by dunes so if you're not busy playing at the site, riding the ponies, petting the goats or playing mini-golf then there's always a day at the beach.
