We love it in this picturesque part of the world and were certainly keen to return. Having been invited to talk at Cheltenham and Bath literary festivals, we felt that Cirencester was well positioned between the two - both cities themselves worth visiting. The Cirencester Caravan Club site is large and family friendly with a playground and play area, although at this time of the year grass pitches at this end of the site are no longer available - of course that doesn't stop the kids heading over to their favourite areas.
Park
As you turn out of the Caravan site, a path continues towards the park. This is ideal for walking dogs but also a great space in which the kids can play. We headed there for some morning exercise but also took the kite out to fly in the meadow, admittedly in very little wind!
Roman Amphitheatre
For the historians in the family, there is a short walk from the site, across the road to a Roman amphitheatre. This dates from the second century and whilst very little remains, the shapes of the land provides sufficient enough evidence. The large curved mounds that were once covered with wooden benches, surround a central area where gladiatorial battles might have taken place.
Cotswolds Water Park
The Cotswolds Water Park is a short drive from the site and superb place for families. The main centre offers a range of activities out on the water from canoeing / kayaking, to sailing and swimming. For those that don't wish to get wet, there's cycle hire and routes to cycle on as well as walks (short and long) around the numerous lakes.
