#XploreMore 2014 - Site 19 - Salisbury Hillside Caravan Club
Site 19 – Salisbury Hillside Caravan Club
We’ve left London now and are heading towards the south-west of England; our chosen location is a Caravan Club site on the border between Wiltshire and Hampshire, between Salisbury and Andover. The location of the site is quite rural but with easy access to numerous cities and places of interest, including the Bath, the New Forest and the southern coast. One of the main attractions is Stone Henge, a short drive from the site. This attracts many tourists and to avoid congestion there are allocated timed bookings. If you do not wish to visit the historical site on foot, it is easy to view it from the road, although the traffic is equally dense and slow.
The caravan site itself is relatively small, with 46 pitches distributed in small cul-de-sacs at different levels. Bordering the site are fields and woodland and there are plenty of walking opportunities. A range of walks as well as other tourist information is provided in the information hut. The reception is small and welcoming and supplies a variety of food, including local farm produce.
Whilst at this site we managed to complete a few more of our hundred challenges: guess five items in a bag; treasure hunt for parents; sprinkle poppy seeds; cook a meal with four ingredients bought at a farm shop; rota of family chores; welcome sign, spa night and world cup final.
