A WEEKEND IN AULD REEKIE

With the school holidays over we decided a short break was in order before our last major trip of the year in mid September.

During the school holidays when all self respecting mature motor caravanners abandon touring, we had fitted a back box to stow our bedding, and the cab and bonnet had been resprayed.   I had even managed to change the almost inaccessible No. 4 spark plug so finally completing the renewal of the HT system. Curtains were taken down, washed and ironed and put back up, a painful experience where access is smaller than arthritic fingers!.  It had taken nine months from date of purchase, but OTRA was now to our liking.

The first weekend in September was too good an opportunity to miss so we headed off and made the short trip to the Edinburgh Caravan Club site in good time.

This was our first visit to this site, and we were very impressed by the facilities and location.   The only disappointment was WiFi  which only worked for about three hours over the three days we were there.  Apparently this had been going on for the previous three weeks!

We visited Edinburgh both Saturday and Sunday, travelling by bus, enjoying the sunshine and the unusually high temperatures.   Edinburgh is a fine city with so much to see and do, and with the castle towering over Princes Street and Princes Street Gardens, it must rate as one of the finest cityscapes in the world.

We took our time going home on the Monday, filling up with LPG at Dreghorn, lunching in Penicuik, and shopping in Peebles before the hair raising trip over the Devil’s Beeftub into Moffat.

So ended a lovely weekend spent on an excellent well run site.   This is one we will definitely visit again.

Once the usual checks have been carried out, OTRA will be ready for our next trip – this time south for the last tour of the year.
