Tottering round Totnes

We recently stayed on the CC Steamer Quay site alongside the Dart in Totnes, it really is Steamer Quay, there is a paddle steam that operates from just across the road!

We know the area well but having easy access on foot to Totnes made a nice relaxing break. The Tourist Office is nearby and we picked up a useful map made by the Year 3 children of The Grove School, what a nice idea, it proved to be very useful.

So we set off to find the various points of interest. We got a bit lost trying to find the ancient Leechwells, hidden down narrow alleyways but "well" worth finding! The three wells have the names of Toad, Snake and Long Crippler. You can just see the stone troughs in the photo.

Another day and we took a walk up to the Norman castle with amazing views over Totnes and down to the Dart. By the end of our stay we'd covered all the places on the map.

As the Dart is so close to the CC site we enjoyed one of the many river trips available, the photo of the boathouse on the Sharpham Estate and vineyard was taken from the river. We also enjoyed some Sharpham cheese in the local Totnes cheese shop, lots to choose from there!

Hopefully we'll be back, no electrics, a nice quiet site and so much to do. Thanks CC!

    Brue

I have heard a rumour that this site is likely to close, did you hear anything during  your stay?

I'd read on a review that the site was leased etc (the small loo block hasn't been upgraded and is quite basic) but I didn't ask anyone about it. I probably didn't want to know having just discovered it and hoping for a return visit! We will be very disappointed
    if the news is bad!

Hi Brue, I once sailed with a 3rd Mate from Totness many years ago. He made it sound a delightful place then, glad to see he was right. Regards, Roy

I love the map made by the year 3 children.  What a lovely idea.

As a regular annual visitor to this site for the past three to four years, I could not help but notice that nothing has been spent on improvements to this site since my first visit many years ago. This year I found myself wondering if the site is due to
close sometime soon. As pleasant as the wardens were they remain tight lipped on this subject.
