As parents we think it's important that children are taken on family holidays whenever it is possible, affordable, convenient etc It doesn't have to be anything particularly grand and expensive - in fact, quite often the simple holidays are the best as the memories that are made tend to be deeper and richer (deeper than the deepend of an expensive water park, and richer than any money spent in an amusement arcade or fair ground).

Going out and DOING stuff is a really vital element of a holiday. So, whether it's finding a water fall and swimming in the plungepool, going for a moonlit walk in the countryside, or playing board games as a family as we listen to the rain tapping on our Xplore 574 roof. I could go on...

You see, the fact that these kinds of simple yet memorable experiences are so easy to access is one of the big appeals of caravanning; one of the things we have enjoyed the most as newbie caravanners so far.

The Caravan Club have launched a new scheme to help families engage their children in outdoor activities while on a caravan holiday; sometimes lacking the ideas is the biggest barrier for some people. The Epic Explorers Activities book is a lovely resource full of ideas and inspiration. It's perfect for any family with pre-teen children.

Ella has really enjoyed completing the book, as well as taking on the challenge to become a Tourer Explorer (and win the snap-on wristband).

So, if this sounds like something your child, or grandchild, might enjoy, collect an activity book from the site office of any of the participating sites - see http://www.caravanclub.co.uk/uk-holidays/families/tourer-explorer for more information.

Well done Caravan Club for promoting kids' activities on your sites :)
