#XploreMore 2014 - Task 55 - watch birds for 2 hours
Bird watching
This challenge was kind of easy for us because we often sit and spot birds from our caravan window.
But at the Kielder site we paid extra attention to all things feathered and flying (although not always flying). One time when we were walking past the swimming pool we saw a baby sparrow that must have fallen out – it took a couple of days for it to build up strength and fly off). Another example of spotting bird life in Kielder was when we we’re stood outside the restaurant having a drink when we noticed a bird nest in the beams with swifts flying in and out. They were catching flies and feeding them to their young. Even from the caravan window we regularly sit and watch swifts, swallows and wagtails.
But that’s not all! For this challenge, we went and perched ourselves in the Kielder bird and squirrel hide.
The amount of birds we saw there was incredible.
We saw:
Sparrows
Wagtails
Greater spotted woodpecker
Greenfinch
Coal Tit
Chaffinch
Crow
Blackbird
Oh, and a rabbit or two
Other birds we have seen since caravanning are:
Peregrine falcons
Buzzards
Robins
Swifts
Swallows
Wrens
Coots
A kingfisher
Pigeons
Herons
Ducks
Geese
Swans
