Caravan wins!
Through the years we have stayed in many statics, but for a change we opted to hire a Motorhome to travel up north to see Blackpool illuminations, it was a great experience and one that lead us to consider our own motorhome, but when looking it became clear a caravan was the sensible option, this you can leave on site and still have mobility and at half the price of a good motorhome, and a great excuse to purchase a nice car. We are now clear on the two diverse options of the two, motorhome or caravan. As for expense there is little to choose, you still need to insure and service a caravan but a motorhome also requires an MOT, yet the re-sale value is higher so all in all the expendature is about even, the down side being you still need another car at home. The motorhome is a development of the caravan and is very popular these days so I am still in two minds what is the best way to go, at the moment the caravan is a better option and hiring a van if we want to tour, though I feel like a novice with 'On Hire From' printed all over the van! There may be a third option, a caravan towed by a smaller campervan, has anyone gone for this option and could tell us if it is practical to use say a VW van as a daily driver and tow vehicle.

Hello there thornton and welcome to Club Together. It might be worth re-posting this in discussions as you would probably get more views and replies.
Whatever option you decide to go for I'm sure you will have many fanatstic holidays ahead.

We have had caravans, motorhomes and an RV. We now use a Nissan NV200 campervan to tow a Freedom Microlite LE caravan. A great combination. A shower/wc in the caravan and a dayvan to use at the beach. It's our only daily driver and I rate it very highly.
Slightly smaller than a VW transporter but I know lots of people use a VW every day.0
