We have just visited Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania. It has been a wonderful trip over several weeks. Many pluses not least English is widely spoken, wireless internet is readily available and much to see. Some of the campsites are on the basic side but adequate. Campsites used, Pirita Harbour in Tallinn (sailing venue for the Moscow olympics), Riga City Camping and camping Harmonie near Vilnius. Camping Harmonie is run by a Dutch couple and is a high standard. On the way back we stopped off at Gdansk, Camping Stogi.

Downsides, many of the roads in Poland are awful although there seems to be a major road building programme. Some roads in Latvia are pretty grim.

On our way out we took the ferry from Kiel to Klaipeda. We wanted to use the ferry from Rostock to Tallinn but our caravan was too long!! When asked could we therefore go freight the response was 'but you are not freight'.

We are happy to share our experiences if this would be helpful--particularly where to buy smoked sausage!!

Nice. We have done a few 'Eastern Block' countries ourselves, they can be a real eye opener, some great sights to see and the food can be wonderful.

This sounds familiar! We are on our way back from the Baltic States at the moment - camped in Szczecin on the Polish border.  Used most of the campsites you mentioned but Camping Harmonie, near Vilnius AND Medaus Slinis campsite near Jurbarkas (both in Lithuania)
were gorgeous campsites and the best campsites of our trip.  We used many recommended by Magbaz travels (see Eastern Europe discussion posted in Jan/Feb). We were also disappointed with the state of some of the main highways in Latvia, especailly around Riga!
Hoping to post a more detailed report on our return to UK.

Adding to our story, we also stopped off in Lubeck and near Hamlyn (Pied Piper fame). Lubeck is a beautiful city, well worth a visit and the towns on the River Waser are a bit different. What was surprising was the lack of wi-fi on the German campsites,
particularly when it was so readily available in the other countries. Didn't stop at Szczecin but Kolobrzeg (Camping Baltic), a well managed site (wi-fi Euros 2.50 for the whole stay) close to the sea.
