Rowntree Park--- a route to avoid and dont believe the Sat Nav

I think that its appropriate that I write about our unfortuneate experience getting to York Rowntree Park last week.

I am always meticulous with route planning and always follow the instructions in the CC site handbook and about 3 years ago invested in the Venturer Caravan Club Sat Nav so you would think that all would be fine and we did follow the handbook instructions upto the first Rowntree Park sign.

The problem was that immediately after we took the first left turn the sat nav said now turn right down Cherry Lane and then left............and this led to a dead end..........

You could say that this was my fault and we did get to Rowntree Park after 3 hrs of juggling the caravan.

The locals say that they get at least 3 caravans a week down this road and feel that the caravan park should have better signing.

Just for the record....Rowntree Park-- great site n great location.

I hope that if anyone cares to read this that they can benefit from my mistake and just to clarify you dont turn right into Cherry Lane... just continue 400 yds to the river and turn right.

Better signing or description in the hand book would help.

Sory to hear of your plight Luckless. I cannot understand why on earth your Snooper sat nav took you down Cherry Street. There is no road at all through from there to the caravan site even if you were trying to get in via the emergency gate which comes out
onto the end of Vine Street. When you followed that first sign & turned left if you went right to the bottom of Clementhorpe, where the river is, you would have found another sign at the bottom directing you to the right to the site enterance. I know the location
personally but my Tomtom sat nav takes me the same way that is in the Club directory. Regards, Roy

Thanks for the comments. We eventually got to the site as is suggested and looking on Google earth before we go anywhere new is clearly a sensible thing to do.
